Question Bridgestone RE050A Tires-Question

Its time to replace the Michelin PS2s that came on my car. I really like the tires but man are they expensive. I was looking on the internet at the Bridgestone RE050A tires. They are Porsche approved and a lot less money than the michelins. They also come in the 305/30/19 size I need. Has anybody had them on their Porsche and what did you think of them?

Thanks for the input,

If you do get them, be sure to post your thoughts as I'll probably consider doing the same thing when mine wear out (later in the year probably ).

I am very satisfied. I think Bridgestones are rare on Carreras compared to Michelin and Contis. I had Contis and PS2s on my M3. I have 3000 km on bridgestones and they will likely to last more than 15000km. My car is driven above speeds of 200 km/h daily and I have a heavy foot so you figure it is not a poser car. On my M3 Contis were around 15000 when I switched to Michelin PS2s where they lasted 5000 when they became unreliable. I also think that dry + wet Contis were better than PS2s and Bridgestones that I have now seem to be very good tires. Of course I want to pass at least 8000km before I say something about their durability.

How would you rate dry weather handling( street and track) on the Bridgestones versus the Michelin PS2s?

Actually Ps2s were on my M3. They were good for a couple of drives as much as I can remember but not better than my Contis on the same car. (many will object to this but this is my opinion). I have Bridgestones on the C4S hence the driving characteristic is very different. It goes like it is on rails. I am very satisfied with my RE050s. The thing is that the honeymoon with the Michelins were very short timewise so I cant even remember. With my driving and route everyday they did not last at all.

The Bridgestones came on my C2S Cab and having driven with Bridgestones on other Porsches was not disappointed at all. Both excellent dry and wet.

Of course, I have only 3200 miles on them so far so I can't report on long term usage.

Sounds like I may give these a try over the PS2s this time. Any other experiences with these tires would be appreciated.

looked at the specs at tire rack and didn't notice much of a price diff (bridgestones and ps2s )but did notice that the bridgestones for a 265/40/18 was 31lb and the ps2s were 26lbs , 5 lb diff for each tire. I have the cont. on mine, think all get the lite tire, also were rated much better than the bridgestones __92% to 98% of people (liked them better) 2nd best --------------mike

Remember though if they last longer and there's only a 6% difference in opinion, then the Bridgestones could be easily the better value.

I guess the main question for most is an extra 20 lbs worth a few thousand more miles on the tires?

Yep - 220 v 140 - so you should expect longer life with the PS2's. Also the weight difference on the 19 inch 235's and 305's is about 4 lbs (2 each) for the front and 10 lbs (5 each) for the rears. So the PS2's are lighter and will wear longer - at least according to the government ratings.

Yes, but that isn't the reality of what people are seeing with these tires from what I've been hearing. Unless it is a coincidence that Bridgestone tire owners are more conservative drivers, I've been hearing that people are getting 15k+ miles on these tires on average versus 12k on the PS2's.

Driving style is a better idnicator of wear that the gov ratings - I agree. Plus on the 235/305 combo you save about $390 with the Bridgestones for all 4 tires.

I saved over $400 on my new set of Bridgestones versus the PS2s. My PS2s lasted 10k miles and are flat worn out. I am an aggrressive driver and had 4 track days on the PS2s. I was happy with them but was willing to try another N rated tire for a lot less cash. I'll post my impressions on the new tires after I have a chance to see what they can do.
