Default How much rain can the convertible top handle?

My daily night-cruise was just cut short because a thunderstorm that was supposed to pass by in the south suddenly developed a little sidekick further north (in the picture, I live "below" the second 'e' in Shreveport).

I barely made it back in time and now I'm wondering: did anyone of you ever experience REALLY heavy rain (and I mean HEAVY) while driving in your cab? Is it a problem or does the top handle it well. I would just like to know for the next time (this time I could actually have driven around it if I'd tried).

Oh, and I do remember the recent post on the 997's weird rain behavior while parked (https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...5&postcount=1), but I'm more curious about extensive driving in heavy rain. Thanks!

I notice when I wash the car that I get some drips on the area by the two little windows.

We don't get Louisiana style rains up here in Seattle. (I'm from New Orleans originally)

I think the most rain my 911 will see was during its break in over in Bavaria. We had a serious gully washer and I didn't see any problens at all. I really can't think of anyone else I'd rather have build my convertible. The Germans handle it very well.

I'm just not concerned about it at all.

i've had 3 porsche convertibles that went through numerous heavy rain storms w/o any problems.
not sure exactly what you think is going to happen?
because it's a cab it's going to spring leaks?
i've had more leaks with coupes and window gaskets!

I don't know about the Carrera top, but last year (before my 997) I had a 2001 Boxster. I had no garage space and had to leave it outside during one of our many South Florida Hurricanes. Needless to say, I was very concerned. When the storm passed, I immediately went outside to check on the car. NO LEAK. Not one drop. I think that says a lot for the Porsche designed cab tops.

I have had quite a few verts over the years and most of them leaked at one time or another. I have only been in the rain a couple of times in the 997S and no leaks so far.

When I drove back from Jackson, MS, there was a torential thunderstorm for 60 minutes. Traffic on the interstate slowed down to 20 mph because it was raining so hard we could hardly see the car infront of us. At full speed, the wippers could not keep up with the downpoor. Not a single drop of water entered the car.

Brett,

I did the hardtop option as I wanted to ensure that I wasn't going to frying my convertible top 12 months a year,--it just gives me a few more options. But I remain impressed with Porsche's canvas tops.

I've been in some rain storms so bad you have to pull over because visibility is zero. I've never had a problem with the soft top leaking, even going through car washes.
