Talking V1 hard wire w/o splicing with pics

I hard wired the V1 this weekend and wanted to share my install and finding with all. On 997s, row C on the fuse box is switched. From memory the C1 slot is for the AWD system and will only power on with the ignition (for C4s you can use C 5 slot ). I used an "add a fuse" to power the V1 and grounded it to the fuse panel hold down nut and bolt. Works great. I routed the V1 wire (telephone wire) underneath the driver door weather stripping and dash board. I located my V1 unit just above the center dash speaker.

Also, for some reason... row D had 1 m volt with the ignition off...

Sounds great

Could you post pictures please? I like to see how you ran the wire.

here are some pics...

note: you have to use a fuse in the "add a fuse" device in order for this to work with 997 fuse box. Orientation of the "add a fuse" spade/power line is important when inserting in the fuse panel.

enjoy,

George

The reason I spliced was to get my V1 up to the top of the dash (see http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6451 note you have to be a RennTech member to view.)

It was not a hassle at all, honestly. But then again I'm an EE.

Great photos! BTW, where did you get the "add a fuse" device?

note: when using "add a fuse" please do note which spade is the lead wire connected to. With my car (997 GT 3) in Row C the power feed is towards the bottom so do orient the "add a fuse" power spade appropriately.

In row C fuse location #1 I had to orient the "add a fuse" to the right (the only way it would fit - with the red lead pointing up). In this orientation you would also have to use a fuse to act as a jumper... I also used electrical tape to tape up the unused spade on the "add a fuse" device. you can just cut it off. I did this to avoid any remote possibility of a short...

Another option would be if you take your car into the dealer for service, they can add the wire to the back of the fuse panel, so it would look factory.

Mark, Yes adding a wire to the fuse box was something I thought of doing... but where do I source it from... radio shack?

I am not an EE and I did exactly the same. Piece of cake!

May I resurrect this? Hopefully, someone is still paying attention to this thread.

Just got a '12 GTS. Had my V1 hardwired into my now departed 996GT3, and would like to do the same in the GTS.

Looking at the pics, and not being an EE , I am not clear on what wire(s) and/or fuse tap I should use.

The first pic in post #4 seems to have a purple fuse attached to the fuse tap, which also seems to be the case in the third pic. Am I seeing this right? I have found fuse taps, but none that will accept a piggyback fuse. I would think the inline fuse holder would suffice.

I have the "telephone" cord, which is what I assume I will use to run to the V1. Do I just snip off one of the connectors, and crimp that onto the fuse tap? From where does the ground wire come (pic #4)?

Also, looking at another DIY posting at Teamspeed, he indicates C1 is for rwd, C5 for awd. This is contrary to the above.

Thanks for any assist
