Default Penalty in NY for no front plate?

Does anyone know what the $$ fine and license points are in NY for having no front plate?

I am thinking about trying to negotiate my upcoming speeding fine for something that doesn't carry points. I recall seeing somewhere that no front plate is considered a non-moving violation and that maybe therefore there are no points, just $$ to contribute to the police coffers?

HELP !! and Thanks.

Is your avatar a picture of the metermaid? That would be worth the $50

Still $50 in NY. Where did you get your ticket? I'd be surprised if you could negotiate a speeding violation down to an equipment violation. Usually they'll agree to reduce the speed to something that gets you fewer points. And a lot of times that depends on whether you have any past speeding citations still on your record. Sometimes, if you can hire a local lawyer who has come out of the D.A.'s office they can negotiate a better deal than what you can do for yourself. I know this from experience and I'm a lawyer.

It was in Mamaroneck. The officer told me that I pleaded not guilty and turned up at court then he would 'help me out'. Seems odd to me, either he has evidence that I'm guilty or he doesn't. This is a new experience for me (although I do have one prior speeding conviction in NY that I pleaded guilty for).

I had a stop sign violation in Mamaroneck with a "plead not guilty and I'll help you out" officer this past may.

oh mamo? Town or Village of mamaroneck? Two different police forces/courts. Ii worked EMS in the village........know a few guys over there.

The way they work it in V.mamo, they hit you with a violation, if its a moving violation(read: points) then as long as you plead not guilty and make the effort to show up to court and your a citizen in good standings IE: you dont have 10 points on your licence already, they plea it down.

i jsut realized i cant read.......you got a speeding ticket and want to plea it to a plate, hah. Were you on mamaroneck ave on the S turns when you got the ticket?

I got a ticket for this a few years ago in my Lexus SC430, I believe it was $75. As far as pleading down a speeding ticket, it depends on your driving record and how fast you were going. I had a speeding ticket reduced to a non-moving violation but the fine remained the same. My driving record was clean and I wasn't going that fast. To me the points are the important thing. Good luck.

I was on the S's once headed West and clipping when my Escort went off..Broke it down immediately, and around the last bend is the Cruiser headed East. He uturned immediately (where I don't know) and by the Citi building I see him in my mirror, and he followed me until I jumped on the Hutch heading North. Nasty village that VMamo. The county cops in this area are sneaky too.

ill do the speed limit on the ave, but going to 95 on that long straight away, i hit well, speeds i dont feel like to post about, then hit the brakes hard for the decreasing radius turn to 95 north.......god i love that turn. I-95 south exit 19 is by far my favoritestest exit in the area....i can pull off the highway next to someone and cross over the highway at the top before they go under it.

between the citi building and the 95 entrance, theres a small hole in the median for them to loop back. Sometimes if your going fast enough they will just hop the median and chase after you like has happened to a few of my friends.

you need not worry about v.mamo when your going west around that S turn, its harrison PD who sit in the middle waiting for people to blast it on that straight away after going on the turns. V.mamo gets you as you come east bound, and go thru the esses, it drops from 40 to 30 once you get past the turns about to go under 95, thats where they nail you.

County PD does radar on mamo ave from what ive seen but they will sit back on the on-ramps hidden by the trees and radar ahead, you go past fast and by the time you notice the cop sitting back up there on the onramp hes already got you nailed.

Yup, the county boys make their quota between that little stretch going from Exit 15 Harrison both North and South to the merge of the Hutch, 287 & 684. Always see someone yanked over in that stretch.

How fast was your speeding ticket for?

I heard somewhere that any fines for speeding tickets more than 10 mph over the speed limit goes to the state, whereas fines for tickets 10 mph or less go to the town/village that issued the citation. Hence the willingness of the local police officers (as well as local judges) to let you plead to 10 mph over.

I doubt they'll let you go with an equipment violation -- most plea bargains require the facts to be applicable to the plea bargain, and since speeding has no bearing on no front license plate, I'm guessing the best offer you're getting is 10 mph over.
