I don't think there is difference in how a tire is made that makes any better then another company for punctures.. Though for the record, I had a nail in a rear Pirelli after 5k but had Michelins on my M3 and never had a nail in 42k. I call it luck.....

It's just the (bad) luck of the draw. I was just happy I took the nail when the tires needed replacing anyway.

Not that this means anything at all, but when I had Pirellis on the car, I had a sudden failure while driving on the freeway. I felt as if I'd hit a massive pothole, and moments later, my TPMS alerted me to my front passenger side tire being down something like -33 or pounds. I later went back to that same stretch of road and didn't see any potholes. Made me wonder if I'd just had a blow-out. Since them, I've switched to Michelin PS2s and have yet to have any problems. And I like them better on the track.

Now I don't feel so bad, I've had a nail in each rear, both within 3000 of getting the car.

pirrelli with 4 inch nail just after I bought the P.....went to Michellins and never had a problem again.....those italians..they make the nicest cars and design the best clothing, but you can't drive their cars or wear there clothing without breaking or staining them.....or maybe it is just dumb luck and has nothing to with the designers (manufacturers). Maybe it is the ****ty infrastructure in the USA or the lack of street maintenance.

Hi,
I have had two nails in Michellins. One I had patched and
one I threw away cause it was in the sidewall. I am running Yokohamas and
Bridgestones and no problems yet (nock on wood).

Are you guys seriously saying that the brand of tire you have on your car makes it more or less resistant to nail punctures?
And that switching from Pirelli's to Michelin's will protect you from picking up nails?
Therefore a leak-causing nail-in-the-tire is not a random occurrence but a preventable event based upon which manufacturer's tires are on your car?
'Cause that's what I'm reading here...and frankly, I'm astounded that so many in what is normally a pretty intelligent crowd actually believe this.
I feel like the only guy who sees that the Emperor is naked here.

I dont believe tire brand has any bearing on nail puncture frequency. I like the Michelins better for the ride and coincidentally have had no problems since purchasing them. Is that better "Leader"? Pirellis on my car gave me 3 nails, one 16 penny size. You tell me why pirellis attracted nails while on my car.

I've picked up a couple of nails in mine,--Bridgestones. Brand? Like John says,--there isn't any correlation, unless it is related to the percentages of the brands out there.

I had Pirelli P zero rosso's on my current car, and never noticed nails throwing themselves in my way. On the other hand, the tires themselves were crap. Terrible treadlife, uneven wear despite fanatical obsession with tire pressure, noisy and felt bald after only a few thousand km. I had them replaced at 16000 km (10000 miles) with Michelin pilot PS 2 and the difference is astounding.
