Default Sport button

Please don't flame me, I am new to the 997 forum. I just aquired a 06 C2 and it has the Sport Chrono. There is a sport button, what does it do. When I press it, it also changes the damper to stiff but that can be cancelled leaving the sport button lit. Is there any performance gain from the button?

TIA

No performance gain. Do a search here to find out more. But more importantly RTFM! Enjoy your new car!

Excellent LeChef.

You got a RTFM on your 1000th post.

Good timing!

Depends - check the option list for option no. 3684-A6 during the production period 12/03/05 thru/including 04/09/06 ...997s had a modified feedback system that would trigger a forum flame of anybody who pressed the Sport button without RTFM.

..and, I can't tell you; I have not pressed mine and I have also not RTFM. I'm still working on the F'ing multi-disfunction sterring wheel...

The problem is there is no manual. Like I said, I got a great deal but only got one key and NO MANUAL. Sorry. So what does the sport button do?

Go here and download the manual if your dealer is too cheapskate to provide you with one or a spare key.

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...ads&showcat=16

The Sport button alters:

Throttle sensitivity

Loosens PSM - i.e. you can feel some slip angle at the rear

Stiffens PASM - if fitted

Activates Sports Exhaust - if fitted

Does not alter:

Power.

Mitch

The dealer owes me an 05 manual. As soon as I get it you can have my 06 manual if you haven't got one yet and he doesn't ask for it back.

Cheers

WOW! That would be awesome.

I'll tell the story of my car. I had a 07 GT-3 which I totalled at the track. I was going to take a year off so never replaced the GT-3. One day, a guy I know who is a Porsche nut comes to me and says he needs to unload his 06 C2S. It's red (the right color) and I've known the car since it was new. I had it PPI'd at the dealer and it checked out. It was the classic deal. He said if I could give him $60k right there, I could have the car. I couldn't refuse. He only had one key and no manual. Now to get it ready for the track!

welcome, we do not flame here, (well perhaps a little match here and there), I have been driving Porsches for over a decade and still use the search button when I have a question.

BTW our most viewed thread, with over 416,000 views!! is:

Ahhhh... there's more to the story. There was no manual to read! Flame withdrawn.

...but, Uhggh - such a good deal makes my feeling-screwed gene act up.

Glad to see you back in the saddle, Mitch! Though it's not your GT3, a 997S is still one awesome ride! Best of luck with the new (to you) car...

Thanks. Yes, I am aware of the "I'd hit it" thread!!! I even remember the Ghetto threads! Usually I am hanging out on the Racing and DE section though.

I can give a short story on the GT-3 (it had a short life afterall). I got the car in time for the 2007 48 hours at Sebring and it had its maiden voyage there. I didn't like the understeer the car had so I started changing out the suspension completely with Motons and GT-3 RSR parts. I also switched to slicks. I was trying to wring out every last tenth when in turn 14 (a fast left hand sweeper) I lost control and hit the inside wall. I don't really remember much of the incident but I will offer this: everyone who tracks should have a proper track seat/harness and use a HANS. I had a seat with head halo, 6 point harness, HANS and roll bar. I walked away from a 100+ mph collision with a cement wall. The car was toast. My wife and family demanded I quit so I have. I miss it so much though and am attempting a comeback. I will tread slowly down that path....
