Default C2S vs. C4S

How can I tell the difference between the two without measuring the rear end width, are the VIN's different?

Thanks.

At a glance, the wider rear is fairly obvious. The inch or so wider doesn't sound like much, but it is. Also, a C4 has a smaller front boot. If none of those work for you, check out the rear tires. The C4 comes with 295 series tires, the C2 with 265 series.

If the C2S equip with Carrera Sport wheels, its rear tire width is the same as C4S.

Nearly all the rear wheels on the 997s are (in 19 inch size) 295/30s--with the Carrera Sport wheels pushing them out to 305/30s.

If we don't mind to crawl down with a flash light, we could check if there is the shaft runninhg from the rear to the front driving the front wheels on the C4(S).

With best regards,

With best regards,
Actually, you would be wasting your time. The bottom of the cars are so well sealed yo would not see a thing. The best clue is the little "4" glued on the back panel... ;-)

It's always those obvious things...

I've seen more than a couple of '05 C4S' that only had the Carrera S insignia and I don't think that they had been changed. Also, I was told the C4S rocker panels are not completely painted (black strip on the bottom portion).

I'm still thinking you're confusing 05 996 and 05 997 - I believe both were produced but only the 996 had a C4S in 2005 - the 997 C4S was after the intitial 997 C2 release and was a 06 model year.

How did you determine that the car with the Carerra S insignia was in fact a C4S - I thought that was your original question - how to tell them apart.

2005 production models were as follows

C2/C2S = 997
C4/C4S = 996
Targa = 996
GT3 = 996
Turbo = 996

Now we're getting somewhere, so there weren't any '05 997 C4's.
The C4's that I claimed to have seen were listed by dealers (typos, I guess).
