Default Best car for 50 or less?

I have been deciding for a while now what car would be best for me. I narrowed it down to porsche after being stuck on the Elise/Exige for a while but I decided I want some more refined and civil in my only car. My order of importance in terms of what I want with the car is

1. Handling
2. Looks
3. Comfort
4. Power

So do you think I should go for an 05 997 base or an 01-02 996 TT? Thanks for your help.

'05 997. The TT will just get you more tickets and heartburn about repairs. Less complicated = better. Base 997 is awesome.

05 997 since power is the last thing in your list.

Honestly, if you are moving from Elise/Exige, a slightly used CaymanS/BoxsterS (3.4L) will be a great choice for your budget.

I have a Boxster S and a 997S, and I was this close to buying a Exige S last year. If you are used to the Elise/Exige's mid-engine handling, you will be happy in a CaymanS/BoxsterS.

With best regards,

Bingo....I agree.
If power were #1, I would think about a 996TT, otherwise a C2 will be very rewarding.
The Porsche will certainly be easier to get in/out of than the Elise and will be more comfy for daily use.
Good luck in your decision.

Granted that the 997 would be the best choice, but one of the criteria is 50 or less. Have the prices of 997s fallen that low?

You can get a really nice 05 997 base for around $50. To get under you may have to move up mileage a hair. My wifes very best friend and also a guy that works for me both have had Audi TT's and they are nice for sure but it has been an aggravating string of problems and dealer visits.

The 997 would be the choice on all fronts IMHO.

What are you going to do with the car? Daily commuting? Weekend brunch-running? Track? Back roads? Waving at girls? Is it your only car, or a secondary/tertiary car?

you can find a lot of gorgeous mid mileage 993's out there from 30-40K..

I'm partial to that model after having Carreras, a 964 Turbo, 944s, a 993TT and a 996TT.

Find a super clean AIR COOLED 911 that has been "baby'd" and you will save $10-$20K for upgrades!

IMHO

um, in that order, no, no, once in a while, alot, and very often This will be my only car, not only vehicle, just car. Sorry I gave most the wrong idea, I didnt have an Elise. I decided against it after a while because i want something more refined and comfortable.

Not sure you will find an 05 C2 for under 50k. If you can, that's your choice. Why not consider an 07 Cayman or Cayman S? There are plenty on dealer's lots at deep discounts.

theyre out there for 50 and i dont mind traveling for a good deal. As for the Cayman, they are good performance but not exotic enough, I want something a few years old that has taken its biggest depreciation hit already.

I like the 993 idea. But some of them are up there in price. I have seem them for 60's. Also, there are babied 993TT's i have seen for 100K!!!
But i guess if you look around you can find a reasonable one.
That's what i would do.
But the base 997 serves me well for now.

Sounds like a base '05 997 with some nice options and a motivated seller is where you need to be.

I realize this is a 997 forum, but from what you have described as your priorities, and for the kind of money you're talking about, I'd seriously consider a used Cayman S. They are great cars.
