I had black leather in my previous cab and, although it would get "warm", it wasn't that excrutiating. (85F direct sun day).
That said, if I lived in a southern climate (i.e. FL, TX, AZ), I ~might~ consider going lighter, but honestly it would depend on the look more than the warm backside.

+1 to in the air...I'd be more concerned about any metal parts heating up and burning your hand. as for the leather, get what you like.

I had black on my 997S and it was never unbearable. I live in VA where it gets VERY hot and VERY humid and I never once complained about the black leather. A little tint (I had 50% on the sides, 35% on the back glass) goes a long way, too. For the benefits of wearing better (i.e. dirt doesn't show as well) plus I like a darker interior, it's worth it IMO. My next interior will be blue...
SORRY - Didn't catch the "cab" part... Either way, top down, any leather will get hot. Like Putt-Putt says below, keep the top up when you park it.

Any black seat will get VERY hot if you leave the car in the sun with the top down... be sure not to be wearing shorts!

Hot is hot. Get the black, close the top.

I have black interior on cab. I have no problems with overheated seats but that's probablyly a result of how I use my cab. When driving on hot sunny days I usually have the top up and the a/c on. I find that I put the top down most often during morning and evening hours. I love a moonlight drive sans top.
During daytime I'm often putting the top up or down as I drive. When at a stop sign and about to enter a tree lined, shaded street I'll put it down. When exiting into an area where it's full sun I put it up. It helps to have a SmartTop. When parked, I close the top. Having the SmartTop, which allows remote and one touch cab operation, makes it all too convenient to just zip it up. And it's so 'James Bond' to walk away from the car and push the button in your pocket!

I've done recordings on black Glare Shields (read: dashboard) on light planes. They typically get up to about +160f. Leather does not have as much mass/density as metal, so it won't get a hot as a black fender, but why fry leather?! ..throw a sheet/towell over it.

I have black leather in my 997S Coupe and Boxster S, no problem in 102F California Summer here.
If I park my car under the Sun for a long time, I would put up a windshield screen anyway. It is a good idea to use one, not only it lowers the interior temperature but also protects the leather & dash. Modern cars also have very good A/C. After parking a long time under the Sun, just turn on the A/C, roll down the windows, start driving the car, and very quickly the cabin will cool down. Just my experience, With best regards, |

Yes, it might be a problem for someone who wears a short skirt or short shorts for a minute or so. Go for the look.
