What about the rest of the X51 intake and larger exhaust valves that are in the factory cars? The intake is to allow more air in as a complete unit with air filter housing and the exhaust valves with headers will allow the effluent.

I don't think there are any differences in exhaust valve size; just a bit stiffer exhaust valve springs to safely allow for a slightly higher rpm.

To my knowledge the X51 kit includes the twin snorkel carbon fiber air box with two air filters, larger diameter sand cast intake with a different plenum and larger throttle bodies, the cylinder heads are flowed, stiffer exhaust valve springs, X51 headers mated to a sport exhaust and a modified ECU.

You are correct that the goal was to allow for more air to flow through the engine to facilitate in producing more power.

I posted my dyno runs a while back. They were performed on an DynaPack 3000 chasis dyno that bolts to the rear hubs (as opposed to the rolling drum type dynos). The results at the rear wheels were 337hp and 287tq. Using the generally accepted 15% drivetrain loss correction factor, that suggests 396hp and 337tq at the crankshaft.

If the mods to your car are limited to X51 airbox, ECU reflash, full exhaust system and 200cel cats, that's all the more impressive. Does FL have X51 dyno sheets to compare with yours? That would be very interesting. I'd also like to know what they could do with an X51 engine. I'll bet they have data already on X51 with cats and a reflash.

Your stock x51 997S dynod at 337 whp?

Thanks for the reply and glad to hear that it comes with the complete intake, very nice and accurate.
The exhaust valves though are a larger size for the X51 to allow for the additional flow. The springs are the same on the 3.8S and the X51 though.

I don't believe you are correct about the larger exhaust valves. If you are, I don't know how you would buy replacements if needed because there is not a separate part number for an X-51 ex valve listed un the parts book.

People have insisted there are different exhaust springs too. Again no part#.

I personnally think the heads are just ported and polished. But I honestly haven't sen the two different heads to compare. I am just going by the online parts book.

I am not sure either but sometimes the online book doesn't have all the correct numbers. I was just reading a thread on GT3 forum about rear hood shocks showing same number for GT3 and GT3RS but they are different.

Well lets end that now we seem to cross paths very often. The last time I checked I was the expert in the field.

Stock Exhaust valve: 996 105 273 03
X51 Valve: 997 105 112 40

Any other questions?

No but I will be checking the cars for compliance in their binary for racing.

There you go, you must have a better parts catalog then the one available on line from Board walk. I am not surprised. After my first look at the Porsche Parts catalog I was not impressed. The ones for Japanese Bikes 25 years ago were better.

I stand corrected first I heard of a larger ex valve.

Andy.. we should definitely meet up. It was my car you test drove before buying your current ride. Now that I have 2,500 miles on maybe the differnece you wanted to feel will be more evident. And if not, c'est la vie.

I am around Sunday afternoon. And the weather looks to want to co operate. Let me know.. PM me if you like.

Yes, I have a question. What is the size of the standard 997S exhaust valve and what is the size of the X51 exhaust valve? Just because there are different part numbers doesn’t necessarily mean one is larger than the other.

Thanks for clearing up the valve spring difference. I would be interested in the actual exhaust valve dimensions however.
