I would assume so. Here in CA we have to pay sales tax on the full purchase amount regardless of whether it is new or used, and we can't offset the value of a trade-in to lower the tax basis, either.

That stinks. So if I understand this correctly, if someone finds a car through a Private Sale but engages a Dealer to add CPO, the cost of doing this would be ~ $2000-2500 for the CPO + Sales Tax on the value of the car ($50k for this example). Overall that's more than a $6k adder to get the CPO for residents of Az since we wouldn't pay sales tax if completing the sale with only the individual. I recently checked with our DMW for the rules of purchasing out of state at a Dealer and was told that the Dealer probably wouldn't charge tax (since the car is leaving their state), but when I brought the car here to AZ, it would get the tax added at the time of registration.

There hasn't been any bodywork besides sealing the rock chip in the windshield. Anybody have any idea how much it would cost to fix this?

Sorry, I should rephrase that: I"ve been following retail cars for sale pretty closely. I keep a spreadsheet of every '05 997 that hits AutoTrader and the Porsche web-site.

The car was sold last week for 52k. Thanks for the interest.

Not sure what's fair value given that it's a private deal, the recent arrival of the MY'09, and the end of the summer selling season. Thoughts? I think $47k is fair, though I may be undervaluing some of the extras (Edmunds prices it at $47k; KBB is at $46k on a '04 to account for the new facelift).

Thanks James. I'll use that as a reference point as I continue my search!
