thoughts on this '05 997?
Looking for a fair price on this 997, something that works for buyer/seller. I had been following '05 997 retail sales pretty closely, but stopped for a month or so. Not sure what's fair value given that it's a private deal, the recent arrival of the MY'09, and the end of the summer selling season. Thoughts? I think $47k is fair, though I may be undervaluing some of the extras (Edmunds prices it at $47k; KBB is at $46k on a '04 to account for the new facelift).

If you've been following the prices of 05's closely then you are the best judge. My advice is stop looking and buy one - this one even! You can then start to really enjoy yourself.

Somebody will always find a "better" deal. If you like the car and will have a clear mind regarding the value and like the color/options then buy it. I don't believe that the new car is that much better that all the current owners will fill the market with current cars-at least not give the current cars away cheap.
If you look at the history-the best looking car (993) is doing a very good job holding price vs. the 996 because people like the looks. Though our 997s are still a departure from tradition (air cooled, bottom pivoting pedals, etc.) they are very good looking cars and in my opinion better than the 997.2 with the saggy boob tail lights.
Personally for a properly maintained (with records) car in excellent condition I think it is a good deal.

I bought mine Jan 2008 and have driven the bejesus out of it this summer, including numerous track days....
What I am saying is.....if you have done your research on this car (previous owners, maintenance, etc.)
BUY THE CAR AND ENJOY IT!

Been looking myself for an 05 and that is a good price. If the color and options are right for you, then pull the trigger. Bose, Xenons and Lobsters do it for me, I'd buy that one in a heart beat.

50K
if you can get that car for near or slight under 50K you should be happy assuming its clean and the color etc you want.... get PPI.

If you can get that car for under $50k, it would be a steal. I sold my 2005 a few weeks ago...with 12k more miles and none of those options except the 19s...for $52.5k. Also had the warranty expiring in a few months.
Could be an east coast/west coast thing, but I doubt you can find a 997 in CA for less than $50k.

I don't buy the comparison to an '04 996. There's certainly some additional discount for any 997.1 due to the mk. 2, but probably not a 996 v. 997 jump. $50K would be a very good price. Market will dictate what it's worth; there is no harm in trying to be aggressive about the price.

Sorry, forgot to mention one thing - car has a noticeably sized scratch above one of the rear wheel arches (probably 9 in. or so). It also has a rockchip in the windshield that has been sealed. So the car is in good, but not excellent condition.
I'm basing my fair price target off of recent posts recommending similar '05 997S's in the low-to-mid $50k range. I figure $5-6k off for the non-S and the fact that it's not cosmetically perfect.
Does that sound off?

A 9-inch scratch? That's pretty big. Do you have any information on how it got there, and what kind of body work, if any, has been done in that area or to the rest of the car?

Does that mean that you now need to pay sales tax since it's through a Dealer (Private Party sale in AZ are tax-free)? That could add another ~ $4k to get it CPO'd.
