Default RIP Paul Newman

The great actor, race car driver and philanthropist lost his life to cancer yesterday. A great guy who turned luck into good fortune and helped others along the way. He will be missed.

When I was doing SCCA Nationals at Lime Rock Park I saw him race.
The first time I saw him he was in a Camaro in the GT-1 class. He started 5th and finished 3rd. His car bore Number 75. Next year he had Number 76, and every year the number increased by one to match his age.
He was an excellent racer.

Great guy. I used to run against him at Limerock in 1974. Very charitable guy.

Charitable, wonderful charismatic actor, and true Porschephile - owned and raced them. In 1988, he founded the "Hole in the Wall Gang" camps for children ill with cancer - the first being in New Haven, where I grew up. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his death - he'll be greatly missed.

He was a great man, great driver and auto enthusiast, and a truly great humanitarian.

Recently, while reading about his diagnosis of cancer in the DE/Racing forum, I paused and looked over the bag of the Newman's Own Championchip Cookies that I was munching on which stated,
"Paul Newman has given over $200 million to thousands of charities worldwide since 1982."

Cool Hand Luke was also on TV a few days ago,...that film never gets old.

He was one of the classiest people in his industry. I wish there were more like him these days rather than all these self-centered people with little talent.
