Default WHITE SMOKE QUESTION

After I run the car hard on the track I park it until the next session.
Upon start-up, there are huge billows of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, and that lasts for about a full minute. When it first happened a few months ago I thought that perhaps the oil was over-filled, but that is not the case.
Can anyone shed light on what the problem and fix are?
TIA,
Mr. B

A little bit of white smoke is okay. A lot (and it seems like you have a lot) could be a faulty oil separator. Take it in and let us know what the diagnosis is.

My 05 997S did just that. I now keep my oil level down one bar and it has not happened since.

This seems to be a relatively commonl oocurance after driving on the track. You might try letting the car cool down prior to shutting it off. If it has been driven hard, you get a little oil seep. Running the car for a couple of minutes after exiting the track will help reduce/eleminate the white smoke on the next startup.

If that doesn't stop it, then it could be your oil separator.

I've noticed a lot of production cars need to be 'run' on a cool down cycle as oppossed to just turning the car off hot. Might work?

My 996 would do that at the track but not anytime else.

No, I would just have to add oil after a track day.

That's why you run a "Cool Down" lap at PDE (and for the brakes) - cool her off and you will notice almost NO smoke after a hard run...

Exactly right - mine did the same once - when the session got red flagged and we had to pull in without a cool down lap - it smoked on next start up . Never again since as now I always let mine tick over for a few minutes after coming in from the slow down lap on the track to enable the oil system to "sort itself out" (as a further precation to the normal slow down lap)

Interstingly mine uses hardly any oil at all - even after a good track day!
