Choices choices....
Does the 997S with PDK have the extended warranty? 7year/100k one. I got that for mine in 2006. The only concern I have is PDK, its great but maybe needs 1 more year to work out the kinks... remember how long it took Porsche to fix the RMS problems. Took even longer for them to admit to it...

"I have not test driven any of theses 2 cars yet, but what are your thoughts ? What would you do ?
I plan to keep the car for a very long time, not a daily driver, but the weekend toy'
Quick answer - I'd get the new C4S, for the same money, and let it be my "toy" for a "very long time". The turbo is perhaps faster on the margins (where you might not be on most weekends) but the newer car has other advantages.
My thoughts:
First drive both. Let your joy be your guide.
Second, focus on what you want and like, and not so much about what you're afraid might happen or be wrong. To me the PDK "bugs" sound like the "weeping cylinder heads" on my '91 C4. I have yet to see a drop of oil after 140k miles. Even the dreaded RMS failure didn't hit every car, was fixed by Porsche in most cases, and was curable with a new tool to seat the seal properly - it just wasn't a major engineering failure.
Third, the Tip is, as was said, just a smart automatic transmission. The PDK is supposed to be a major advance in smooth power. Try them both.
Color is an important personal choice, but I really do like the Natural Leather Brown option on both cars. It's very rich, up close and personal.
You are blessed with two good choices. Enjoy!

I would DEFINITELY get the 09 C4S PDK.. I drove a 2004 C4S Tiptronic in Germany in 2004 and HATED it ! Useless transmission compared to a 6 speed. I hear good things about the PDK even by die hard manual transmission users. You will also get the upgraded goodies for 2009 like direct injection fuel, better mileage, interior upgrades and several electronic options not offered before.

I am probably the only person on these forums that can understand your reason to get a Tip or PDK. Personally I lost my left leg 6 years ago and can not push a clutch with my prosthetic...Tip was the solution for me and PDK is a godsend! I still whiped it up on the track with the Tip!

Thanks for all the info, fellow Rennlisters !
I asked the same question in the 997TT forum and the consensus was against the Tiptronic in that car
And I agree with a previous post here, I wish to spend my hardly earned money in a new car, a virgin, hehehehe...
Will keep you posted about my decission, still 3-4 weeks left !

PDK!! Have Tip in my truck and PDK in my Cayman cab. Love the PDK. Now hate the Tip even more!

If you're committed to the automatic, then I would get the PDK C4S over a Tip TT.
As others have said, the TT with the Tip is a great drag racer. The C4S with PDK will be plenty fast in a straight line and will be a blast to run on curves or at the track.

I would get the C4S. No way I would by a Porsche with a tiptronic. Maybe a PDK, but not a tiptronic. That said, I would drive them both and get the one YOU like the best. You are the one that will be driving it.
