Default PSE is disappointing. Any other switchable exhaust?

PSE has a nice growl but it's too inconsistent. Sometimes sounds angry at idle but sweeping through the rev range it gets quiet then louder above 5k rpm. I like being able to switch to 'quiet' when I take the kids to school or go out with my wife.

I'd like Fabspeed bypasses but that's going to be too loud. I may go ahead and get AWE mufflers.

Is there another switchable option? Or am I stuck with PSE?

Which car do you have 997.2?

If so many here will happily relieve you of the exhaust at a discounted price and subsidize a new after market one.

I'll swap you a new Sharkey exhaust for your PSE...assuming Alex cooperates (but it is not switchable).

First dibs!!

Did you disconnect the automatic feature that quiets the exhaust through the low to mid rpm range?

If you didn't, do a search to see the options for doing this.

If a 997.1 I don't agree,--love the PSE sound. Better with a cabriolet, however!

I have to admit I like it as well. In some ways it makes me watch how the car revs. just by the sound and the ability to go stealth is a nice advantage.

Sounds like a Sharky bypass is the answer for you.

I have a 997.2 Cabrio and the factory noise is ample for my purposes -- if anything, I want the car to return to the 993 "Motor Sound" option rather than the blurping sound of a wide open exhaust.

I just spent an hour in the hills for (the first of many) wide open throttle runs ... just over 2000 miles on the odometer. The car doesn't need more exhaust note with the top down, and the Pirellis are good, but the weight of the car in Cabrio form needs at least Sport Cups or RA1's or even Hoosiers to go from skating to sticking ... no excessive body roll, but a lot of slip on the Pirelli's. The roar, the "explosion" shifts and the force of the 4S cornering in "Sport Plus" shift mode was sensational. My adrenal gland needs a good nights' sleep.

If you have a 997.1 and the mufflers are relatively new I'd swap you for some low mileage (2,000) AWE mufflers.

I honestly like the sound of the PSE better.

Dude - Unplug it and leave it open all the time - then see what you think.

You can simply plug it back in when you go out with the family.

Nota----install the X51 headers. It really adds to the flavor of the PSE. Thinking you'll be much happier with this sound.

I hadn't searched for threads pertaining to low to mid range levels. I'll do it now.

My car is a 997.1. For daily driving I'm not always on it. If I get rid of it I'll swap with someone for sure. I have thought about the X51 headers too. This thread makes me want it.

I remember reading about someone unplugging the exhaust but I do like hitting the sport button for more music.

Me? So far, so good. It would be great to have PDK behind (or in front of) the 450hp RS engine, but for now, well the .2 Carrera handling is fun and the "S" engine is strong (if lacking the rpm "head room" of the GT3 engine.) Great fun.

kdurg,

The X51 headers really make the exhaust louder? I assume you have yours unplugged? And the headers still made it better?

I see you are in VA (I am as well). Did you have the headers put on locally?

I absolutely love the sound of the PSE.

It mimmicks the sound of the air cooled 911's and the best
part, you can turn it on or off.

The PSE is just like captain's choice on a boat -- there is a time
when you want to hear that engine growl and I suppose there
is a time when you don't. Mine is always loud.
