Road Hazard Tire Coverage Contract
Dear members:
When make my purchase for the C2S, the dealer try to sell me the "Road Hazard Tire Coverage", priced $999. Basic coverage is for 3 years for damage to the tire and wheel due road hazard, either by repair or replacement. I know the tires are expensive. But is this worth buying? Did anyone purchase this? What do you think? Thanks for your input.

The dealer gave me the warranty for $799 for 5 years (said it was his cost)! Its actually pretty good. I have had my car for 3 months with 3000 miles on it and I got a nail on the inner shoulder of the rear wheel. I called the warranty co. and they gave me a claim number and told me to go to any tire dealer and have the tire dealer give them a call with the claim number. The tire dealer (Americas tire) gave me a brand new rear tire worth $400. They tire dealer was hesitant at first but they did what was required. So I think it was worth it.

You're being somewhat overcharged.
Get the price down, and it's well worth it. Remember, it doesn't cover just the tires that are currently on the car, but covers all tires put on the car during the time you own it. If you're replacing rears every 8-10,000 miles, which many people find themselves doing, and you buy road hazard insurance for the new tires every time, that adds up pretty quickly. Plus, the road hazard insurance from your tire store only covers the tires, not the wheels, and the package your dealer is touting covers the wheels, too---and the wheels, depending on which ones came with your car, are damned expensive. Hit a pothole hard enough and crack one of the wheels, and you'll be very glad you have the hazard insurance.

Dealer offered the laundry list of "added protection" items, one of them was tire insurance. Dealer said at a minimum that I should get the tire insurance, yeah right. I was going to decline them all but my wife said I should take the tire insurance. So I took the tire insurance ($600).
The very next day, I had a flat. Brought it back into the dealership. Gave me a loaner and had a brand new PS2 on the car by the end of the day. I've already paid for the insurance on the second day of ownership, any other flats I get are replaced for free.
Get the tire insurance.

I've heard about these things going both ways. I have heard of occasions of rims getting damaged due to potholes, getting a flat, etc, and the warranty company claiming it was from "abuse" and declining to cover the problem. I got the insurance on my C4S but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Apparently mine covers curb rash in addition to the normal stuff, but we'll see what happens when the time comes.

Something seems weird about these prices. I just recently got road hazard in the tristate NYC area. 1250 from one dealer (5Y, tire and wheel, 3K limit). 1650 from another dealer (5Y, tire and wheel, no limit)- also through in lost key insurance (up to 1 key per year for free).
595 has to have some sort of a low limit. the $999 Eschere quoted sounds right given it is 3Y. Maybe it is a geographic thing?

Thank you for the inputs. It looks like it maybe help to have the hazard coverage.
But, from 600 to 1k or even 1500, that is pretty big difference in the pricing....

I bought it on my new TT in February ($990 for 5Y). With my past experiences with wheels and tires, I am virtually certain I will come out ahead on this. The dealer also told me that they follow Porsche's policy that nail holes are not patched (I have patched a few when my experts at Wheel Enhancement tell me its safe) and that they will pay for a new tire.

If the insurance covers wheel damage as well, it may be worth it. For tires, it should be much less... since you can get it for tires cheaper when you buy a new tire.
As to the cost being high or not for the OP, that depends on where he is located (not obvious to me, but certainly sounds like its not in the US)
