Talking About to pull the trigger on a used 997.1 Carrera S and need your input...

Hi everyone... After an extensive search, I have found the car that I was looking for. Here are the specs:

2006 Carrera S - 6500 miles
Seal Grey/Black Full Leather
Adaptive Sport Seats
Self-dimming mirrors
Heated Front Seats
19" Carrera Classic Wheels (1500 miles on tires)
Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
Sport Chrono Package Plus
Nav for PCM
Bose
Remote Changer
Sport Exhaust System

The warranty expires in July 2010. I can get the car for $53K or so. The original owner wants this transaction to go through his dealer who is offering to certify the car for me for $1990.

Here are my questions:

Is this a fair price? This car has ALL the options that I want (I can add a sport shifter later on).
I was thinking of doing a PPI and I am wondering if it is necessary if I opt to have the car certified. What do you guys think?
At $2K, I think that the CPO is a no-brainer... what do you think?

I am SO excited to soon be able to join this club!

It sounds like a good deal on a nice car. How far would the CPO take you? You may want to have a PPI to check for previous damage/paint etc. Why were the tires changed out so soon?

The CPO would take me to 07/2012. The owner put another set of wheels on the car (WORK wheels)? when the car had 1500 miles, hence the low mileage on the tires.

Thanks for your input!

Sounds like a decent deal based on my search over the past 2 months. I just picked up a 2006 S, same color and interior as the one you describe w/8800 miles for about the same price from a private party - but no CD changer, NAV, Sport Chrono, or Bose.

Do a PPI and you can't go wrong by adding the CPO. My car already had the RMS replaced (09/05 build) so keep that in mind - but don't let this scare you off.

Good luck! This is a really great car.

I wuldn't wate the money on a PPI, I would however have the dealer run the car's VIN number and look at the car's service history and over-revs...

Thanks for the response and input... I will get the car certified and ask for the service history, etc...... $2K is a small price to pay for the piece of mind it provides.

By the way "BradyB", I live in Berkeley, so perhaps we will have a chance to see each other on the local roads.

Cheers!

About a year ago one of our local members got an 06 S with all that sort of stuff (and similar mileage) for $50,000. I would deduct further, for the common color.

Seal grey was taken out of the color palette several years ago and I'm not sure it's really all that common.

I think it is a great deal. Your car's options are nearly identical to mine and I would buy my car now at that price (with higher mileage) in a heartbeat. I'm quite envious of you guys who are getting into a Porsche with the soft market now.

I would do the CPO because neither you nor the original owner knows if it has any problems that show up with more mileage. That's one negative of low mileage.

Exactly, just ask the dealer to run a DME scan.

It's a plug and play that should be N/C

Thanks guys for the very useful input and comments! The dealer will run the DME scan tomorrow and will also provide the service history... If all checks out (the car was bought and serviced exclusively at this dealer), the next step would be CPO. I CANNOT wait to get it! I haven't owned a P-car since my last 968 (great 1st p-car by the way).

Great car. Good options. The CPO includes a more extensive inspection than many typical PPI's because they become liable for the condition of the car. It also helps resale, should that happen. Seems like a good choice.
