There are numerous links from 350Z owners on the net about this issue, some that have run for years.
Pressure from 350Z owners forced Nissan to offer an exchange program for 2005-2006 engines that consumed excessive oil. Initial 2007 TSB included engines whose oil level reduced by 2mm on the dipstick per 1000 miles (about 1 liter or quart per 12000 miles), final TSB NTB07-088c has been "loosened" to 8mm drop on the dipstick per 1000 miles (about 1 liter or quart per 3000 miles). There is uncertainty on the threads about the cause of the problem which also causes extensive soot at the exhaust pipes, this engine was a development of the 2003-2004 engine where power was boosted including by apparently changing the VVT program and allowing the engine to rev higher, the “Rev-Up” engine. The replacement engine is apparently modified but again there seems no official Nissan explanation. In 2007 the engine heads were completely redesigned, the "bulge in the bonnet" model appeared and the problem is apparently no longer significant. Thought this would be of interest to members as to how Nissan is treating this issue. By Googling NTB07-088c there are downloadable copies of the TSB without having to register
