Default 2005 997 for sale on Craigslist

Just noticed this on Craigslist - looks like a decent price on an '05 997 for those of you that are looking:

2005 Porsche 911 Coupe 997 - 12K miles - Warranty - $42900 - (Westlake Village)

Next buyer would be the third owner---seems like a high turnover on a car with 12,000 miles. Don't people buy these cars to DRIVE anymore?

Not the people who choose "safe" colors like silver.

You assume that everyone is in the correct position in life to drive tons and tons of miles. I bought my 2006 997S because it was the car that I had always dreamed of and got it at the right price. It was less than 30 days after my first child was born. 17 months later my 2nd child was born. They are now just over 3 and 18 months. As much as I love the car..it's just not great for a young family.

I work 5 miles from my house and drive the car to work very frequently...but the miles just don't add up.

I've had the car 3 years tomorrow and have only 7,000 miles on the car. It's not that I don't want to drive it more...it's just that many times I can't. Just today two Porsche Plus child seats arrived at my door. My oldest can now sit in the back, but my youngest is still 18 months away. Too bad there's 18" of snow in my driveway!

I plan on keeping this car for quite some time and I'll make up the miles later.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. You find it ridiculous to not drive a 911 and put it on a battery charger. I find it ridiculous to spend $45K in options on a $90k car. C'est la vie!

Not bad, but I expect you should be able to get an S for that amount or less. I saw a C2S Cab with 19k miles for $40k on AutoTrader. Also, the ad says "leather" but I find many people say that, but it isn't really full leather. Do a search on AutoTrader to see what you can get other 05's and 06's for. Good Luck.

After I bought the car, I took a job 5 miles away. Me and wifie have three cars between two of us. Guess what I chose to ride to work? An old $200 bicycle.

Believe it or not, I have more fun riding that bike to work, than any car could provide!

I could explain, but if you need the explanation, than you would just not understand.

My '05 is my daily car, but that means 15 miles round trip to the office and back, which is <4K/yr, plus some weekend use (we take my wife's car when we go out with another couple, for obvious reasons), I doubt if I'll do more than 5k/yr. When I got it it was 4 yrs old and just under 21K so the previous owner drove it about the same.

cabs area bit less desirable on the used market though. a hardtop c2s with 19k miles for 40k would be a pretty damn good buy IMO

Agree - that's a high asking price for a 2005 non-S coupe, even with only 12K miles. That car will go for the high 30's or 40K tops.

I've never seen evidence that cabs are less desirable on the used market, especially if comparing a C2S cab to a C2 coupe.
