How is the sound quality of the standard system and how easy/costly is it to upgrade & still be integrated with the PCM...Thanks!

I'm perfectly happy with the sound quality of my base system in my 2009 Targa. I don't expect it to be a studio quality listening room. It does the job and does the job well in my book. Given all of the tire, wind, engine noise, I have no aspirations personally to upgrade things. I cannot speak to the ability to do such upgrades.

i always wonder if id even notice the difference in base versus my bose...
its an expensive option too. i dont think the base is upgradeable, bose always uses different wires and etc which would have to be run from factory. i hate to see when people pur aftermarket stuff in porsche and have to use aftermarket headunit.. just ruins everything imo. |

Thats my fear...I like the idea of the Bose sub in the passenger well...I'll check it out this week...I believe an aftermarket upgrade is probably out of the question. I'm not looking for a listening room...just some presence. Thanks Minok.

You gotta get some frame of reference for my comments though.
I was driving around in a 1994 VW Golf with the factory AM/FM/Cassette deck until last year. I listen to AC/DC, Iron Maiden, as well as classic rock like ZZ Top, etc. I'm not listening for that special change in the 5th movement of a Wagner opera, or a Mozart concerto. If I need more 'presence' I just turn the volume knob a bit clockwise. So I may not be a great reference point, if your views on listening or your selection of source material are drastically different. IE, I place zero value on making my license plate vibrate.. so the ueber bass that seems to be valued by some is a negative in my book. |

The new sound system sounds much better than my 997 GT3, I dont know if its my imagination but
It sounds much better than the Sound-Plus in my GT3. I like it alot. I like the speaker boxes in the rear. I think it is better

just as an FYI, you can't just add "anything" to the stock system. The bose sub is not capable of being retrofitted. The system is a heart breaker to work on, so unless you are willing to take your car apart and spend some cash, you should get used to the stock stereo.
I played with some aftermarket ideas and went back to stock. It does sound better once you get used to it! |

If you plan on moding the stereo get the base system...DO NOT GET BOSE. With the base system you can tap into the stock head unit and use either a JL Clean Sweep or even better a Alpine Imprint and then go with some amps and change out the speakers.
