Default Experienced drovers PDK'ing ...

Guys, serious question re this tranny:

For those of you in the upper run grps/racing and running PDK (bob r, CGT, mdrums, etc), can you left foot brake overlap throttle without DME cut out/off on with the PDK tranny ??

Curious..

BTW PDK owners, the latest Excellence throws out a great bon-mot in the 2010 Turbo review, p80, in speaking of the same vs the tip:

"Porsche plainly admits the PDK is now its performance gearbox where the six speed manual was before."

I am still a manual guy tho (but not bec/ of the transmission or now maybe in spite of the transmission) ..

left foot braking is still a problem. If you apply the brakes with your foot on the gas the engine reduces to idle after about 1 second. So, you have to lift off the gas, brake and then press the gas. By then the corner is done

Ok, just wondering and kind of what I expected...

So there is a bit of programming left. The Porsche way..

If they fit the GT cars with it (after the blk chg), I'll bet they get rid of the software "glitch".

I might be in then!

Cello - I wonder if they will "fix" it. The software is looking for a runaway engine - and the liability concerns. The logic is that if you are stepping on the brakes when the engine is still producing power, it must be unintended acceleration. Not sure they will change that except perhaps on race cars. Consider that until they killed ABS, the cup cars had racing ABS which was more tolerant of bumpy tracks than the cooking version.

With normal ABS, cars without ABS could easily outbrake ABS cars if the braking box was bumpy. Used to tick me off no end

No left foot the brake with...but I have a talented fast right foot! HA HA

Bob Rouleau I was messing around 1 day trying to wear off the Pagid Yellow transfer to get my stock pads to grip again. Useing my right foot (again don't have a left foot) I braked with my right foot and added throttle with the outsde of my foot...just like a heel and toe. I was trying to drag the stock brake pads and wear off the race pad transfer. My car did not cut the fuel like my Tiptronic use to.

Cello, in my experiance above I would say yes you can left foot brake like you are thinking of doing.

Bob: Understood; the above is why I figured the cut-out. However, as the programming gets 'better', there should be a way to threshold the system - That is, like yaw is thresholded w/ PSM; ie, exceeding a certain percentage of yaw results in DME override. Could there not be a similar percentage of braking/pedal force nec before system override ?? Generally, unless one is an F1 driver one would not be threshold braking and overlapping throttle; but for trail braking or for 'Karting' techniques in slower corners or to set turn in w/o lifting, such programming could be useful and wld give those of us that enjoy a challenge something to work at .. Just some thoughts

Mike - That is interesting. I am at the track this weekend and am going to see if anyone has tried this/will try it .. This was more of what I was thinking (see above). Thx.
