Default Porsche owners in metro areas

So, I've been considering finding a job in maybe NYC or DC and getting out of the country. Just not enough to do. However the idea of parting with my 911 makes me want to cry.

I want to know how some of you that live in these metro areas keep your cars. There is no way I'd leave it parallel parked outside a townhouse, and I recently saw some parking garage prices in my visit to NYC that made me cringe. $3xx per month for standard vehicles and $4xx for exotic (I know that they would consider Porsche exotic.)

I would love NYC, but I don't know if I could afford the parking...

What do some of you do?

My experience with Manhattan garages is not good.

Not sure what neighborhood you're quoting monthly costs from (or if you're including all the taxes) but I'm not in an expensive area and it's over $500/month for a park and lock space. For me it's a loosing battle on small dents and little bumper scratches. I guess with an all out effort to physically protect the car and then taking care of all of the staff on a regular basis it is possible, just time consuming and expensive.

My C4S lives at a second home 100 miles north, would not bring it into NYC. So it's a weekend relationship. An even more expensive solution but with more benefits.

Many of the NYC lots have a surcharge for Hi-line cars.
I also paid extra for my own personal spot.
Also dont forget about the crappy roads & tolls. good luck!

IMHO? Get rid of the car. You'll get another one someday. I always feel vulnerable in the rough-and-tumble city driving a small hard to see and obviously expensive car. The stiff race track suspension is such a plus too, not. There's no reason to have these cars unless you have an opportunity to drive frisky on a daily basis. If you have to drive through 50 miles of congestion before the road opens up they make no obvious sense. However, if you live in SoCal this principle does not apply.

I live in Boston and own a C2S. Street parking is not an option as the local college youth seem to not have any regard for personal property.

Parking is not as bad as NYC but it is definitely at a premium and spots are NOT big. I pay about 350/month for mine. I lucked out and got an end spot, but I cover the one side of my car with a door defender:

Great product and nice people working there.

DC has to be the armpit of the United States, are you really sure you want to live there? It's like living in a boring suburban town except you are gridlocked in traffic all day long.

NYC or Boston have bad traffic but if you've got some bucks just keep them in a good garage.

Living in the Midwest and paying for parking is horrible as well.

Wait a minute, we don't have to pay for parking.

I sure hope that crazy high price is the charge for a month's private heated garage, including a complete detailing.

in NYC garages you always get a free limited detail- the interior is cleaned of all small change , CD's, radar detectors, cell phones, mints and any other items you choose to leave in the vehicle

The full detail must include removal of seats, steering wheel, and PCM.

I live in Montgomery County MD and commute 13 miles each way to my office. My 911 is an all year round driver and the only real issue is pot holes. Otherwise, I park in my garage, drive anywhere and park on the street. NYC is a different place than DC. BTW, this is a great place to live whether you are single or married with kids. Plenty of traffic but plenty of chances to have some fun with your P car.

Even if you keep the car and put up with expensive parking the next question that comes to mind is, how can you possibly enjoy this type of car in a heavily trafficked and policed city?

if you have options try Dallas. Aint to far from AR and the country is just mins outside the city!
