A radar detector that is too sensitive is WORTHLESS. Why? because it programs you to ignore the warnings both legitimate and false. Like the reverse of Pavlov's dog who is not rewarded with a treat when the bell is rung.

That, I believe, is why people with the V1 are getting nailed with speeding tickets as they have repeatedly reported here. It has nothing to do with instant on. We are all subjected to instant on and yet do not get speeding tickets. You guys are either the unluckiest people in the world or something is wrong with the specificity of this system and you are consciously or unconsciously ignoring its warnings.

I just upgradec the sw in my escort 9500i to the x version. The best features for me are the auto learn, so just driving around the detector notes false alarms, if they are in the same spot 3 times they get eliminated, and i also have the database of speedtraps etc. I like the GPS, some like the arrows on the v1

cheers

You know that V1 has different modes with different sensitivity settings, right? Reading the manual has some details about this, including ways to re-program it. User error can and will cause too much sensitivity though.

There is not a radar on the public market that is impervious to instant-on - Period.

Yes I am aware of the different sensitivity settings and I alluded to this in an earlier post. What seems to be happening (pure speculation) is that people are getting fed up with false alarms and are either ignoring the warnings OR putting it in the lower sensitivity mode which cause them to miss the legitimate threats.

I simply don't have any other explanation for why you people seem to get so many speeding tickets when the rest of us, who use an alternative system, do not. I conceded that this may have something to do with the sheer number of people who have opted for the V1 compared to alternative systems, but otherwise I simply don't know.

Escort 9500ci is the current state-of-the-art detector. Nothing else even comes close. Yes, its expensive. Yes, its hard to install. But its as close to a cloaking device as you can currently find. And it has integrated GPS that learns all the false alarms on your regular drives and marks them. Stays nice and quiet except when you need it.

I think you are right when you say it is more of a volume of users of one product and the count of tickets they've collected. However, you can't statistical draw any conclusion on one detector getting more/less tickets than another based on what is posted on the internets. I for one have been ticket free since I began using my V1, but that really has no real weight statistically speaking.

One thing that can be said over and over without the need for statistical data, is that no detector on the public market (legally) is impervious to instant-on.

Like tires or oil or even type of car, buy the radar detector that has the features you like most.

There's an App. available on the iphone called Trapster.

It gives you a real time audio warning when other users have input the location of a speed trap or new camera location etc. as you're coming upon it.

This is considered a sharing network so it's legal.

Not as good as a personal radar detector but very handy.

Cheers,

Sid.

I did a lot of research, before purchasing my current detector. Bel products were reviewed very well. I ended up getting a Bel Vector 995. Most reviews stated it was or was one of the best detectors on the market for the money.

I have tested both the 9500ci and the V1. I ended having the 9500ci installed. I am very happy with it. It seems more sensitive then my V1. I do miss the arrows showing where the radar is. In the end as I own both I think the Escort 9500ci is the better of the two radars. Just make sure you find a good shop in your area to install your 9500ci if you go that route.

This is a debate we have every year. Just as an example I was going to Lancaster last Friday and I was coming up to California City. My V1 went off, no cop, FIVE miles later I came across the CHP parked on the side of the road with someone pulled over. The range is just unbelievable. So far I think my V1 is worth around $10,000 in tickets and insurance.

Default You need a Valentine One

I love the V1 because it has good range and the Arrows. Additionally, you need to get a Laser Jammer as well.

Gadgetman, which laser jammer do you recommend? Save me some time. After seeing your excellent videos I want what you have.
