Default Changed the Oil in my 997.2 today PHOTOS

Very easy, saved a bundle.

Blitz Rhino Ramp 12000 Extreme Ramps & two 3-ton Jacks

Suncoast provided Oil Filter Kit & Drain Plug and Washer

Locate Oil Pan

8mm Hex Socket

The oil pours out really fast, be ready

Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket

Remove Oil Filter Housing Lid

Dispose of used Oil Filter

Install new Gasket

Filter goes in dry

Oil Filter Housing Lid: 19 ft-lbs

Oil Drain Plug: 37 ft-lbs

I initially added 7 quarts of oil, measured oil, added the 8th quart, oil measurement is coming up one segment bar below the top of the desired range

Wow - that's great. Thanks.

Doesn't look like $180 - and some places want even more

Would you happen to know if a 997.1 set up is the same - i.e. one drain plug? What are you torqueing the drain plug to?
thanks

Good, just instead of 0-40 next time would be better to use 5-50 or 15-50 oil. Or a mix. I did it today with replacment of oil pan to 996 X51 one and used 6qt of 15-50 with 2qt of 5-50. Hopefully it will work better than 0-40, with it I had hydraulic lifters knocking after intense auto-x laps. Oil with higher viscosity should remedy this hopefully.

How many quarts did you drain out? I use a cut-down 5 gallon paint container to drain my oil, with markings on the side for every quart. I attempt to put back the same amount that I take out.

Good question, maybe tomorrow I'll pour from the drain pan back to the bottles, but a saturated filter must hold close to quart too.
I just drove 20 miles and the oil measurement is coming up one segment bar below the top of the desired range, with eight quarts added.

5W50? Where are you getting that, the Ferrari dealer - that's about the only place you'll find it in the US.

Did you jack the front of the car just to keep the pan level so it would drain?

Nice write-up!

One question though - why the new drain plug?

Excellent write up w/ pics. I plan on changing mine (09 997.2S) in about 2 weeks and just got a filter/gaskets from Suncoast too!

Only one location needed to drain oil? And how many miles @ your oilchange?

Bought my Mobil 1 0-40W from Walmart @ $6.29/quart. x 10, and Suncoast Oil Filter $17.50, so in it for less than $90 w/ tax & shipping

Thanks

Andreas--I have two. One for the bottom of the oil bucket when I left it go, and the other one to stick in the engine. I can then fish out the other plug when the oil has cooled.

First, I love that last picture with all the Mobil 1 lined up next to each other....looks like a commercial.
Second, its nice to see that some new timers are starting to do what we old timers have been preaching and doing forever.
Don't forget that cabin air filter and air intake filters are easy to do too.
BTW, I know its an overkill today..but I do oil/filter every 3-5000 miles..even on the new cars. 12000 is too long if you want to keep the car forever like I do. I have had no problems with cars that I have owned since almost new lasting over 200k running with great compression, milage, and little oil burning.
Clean oil is the life and blood of your engine...cheap investment to change frequently specially if you DIY.

Suncoast only sells the washer with a plug, I reused the original plug. They shipped me two washers, so I have a complete new setup for my next oil change.
