I always take the time and explain what we do and follow up with an invitation to an event to either participate or just watch.

I tell people that I track my car. When they ask, I tell
them that I can go around the track as fast as I can
and not worry about getting busted by the police.

I say track...or going to the track. If they want to know what I do I explain the whole DE concept to them.

I'm on the opposite end. I actually race wheel to wheel (SCCA Road Racing) however many people think that means I do oval track racing (NASCAR style). I tell them "it's like a formula one course but with cars you can buy from a dealership" and they usually get the picture.
