Suggestions for something to maybe replace 997??
First off, don't get me wrong, I love my 997.2 very much.... much more than my 997.1 for sure but i will have had my car a year coming up here and i feel like something new would be exciting between now and the time the 998/991 comes out spring of next year... porsche to porsche to porsche is always fun, but something different with a totally different feeling would be exciting for sure.
Thoughts so far:
BMW E92 ///M3 coupe' (08+) fun but 997.2 would be a better car i feel.
Aston V8 Vantage coupe' (08+) great car, but slow for the amount of horsepower its putting down.
AMG CLK63 Black Series coupe' (08) fast, but from a far resembles just a regular CLK
Maserati GranTurismo cool car but more luxury than sports car, not quick.
Audi R8 fun car, baby gallardo... seems somewhat bland in comparison
Carrera GT3 (2010) great car, ballsy and fun
Carrera Turbo (2010) fast as all hell, more daily drivable than the GT3 above
Bentley Continental GT coupe' (08+) luxury car, somewhat quick but more cruiser than sportscar
Lamborghini Gallardo coupe' (07-08) great car, borderline exotic, higher cost of ownership
Ford GT coupe' again great car, borderline exotic, higher cost of ownership
(Green=Cheaper), great but i feel will lose interest fast
(Blue=Straight Trade), fun for the time being and no downsides
(Red=25k+ Difference), very fun but fear i wouldn't want the new 998/991 after owning.
would love if anyone can make any other suggestions i somehow missed under 125k and under/around 75k.... as you can see my list jumps around from "luxury" to "true sports car" to "semi-exotic"... i basically want a 2 door coupe with some *****.

I've driven two and its a great car.
Or if you are still keen on a Porsche 2010 GT3RS

unfortunately the GT3RS is outside what i feel is a reasonable reach, i wish i believed in financing sports cars, if so i'd have a white on blue 458 in my garage right now.
im surprised so many put the R8 with the 997.2 Turbo... the 997.2 Turbo i was in was a fricken BEAST but the R8 i rode in just felt like it was trying to hard to be a gallardo but slower.. ..

Well to be quite honest if money were no object and if you wanted to finance a sports car I'd then say McLaren MP14 all the way...
But why not just keep your 997.2? I think you'd be bored with all of these choices you have listed anyway as the end result is simply waiting for the next gen 911.

You must have a lot of time on your hand! Didn't you just put down some serious $$ for your wheels? now wanna sell?
I vote R8. Incredible car for what it is... If you're thinking Turbo, or even GT3, I'd keep 997...
From the other blue cars, both Aston and Maserati SOUND AMAZING! and have great fit and finish, and total looker... but both a lot more GT than your 997... so not sure if you are into tracking or more DD, if more tracking, go R8 for sure, if not, then get whichever of the three you find more appealing!

I used to be like you, in fact I've owned 134 cars in just the last 10 years, then after probably losing close to 250k on cars I bought and got rid of, I realized that the cars they produce are for the masses, and I'm not the masses. So after 4 Ferrari's 3 Maserati's 39 Porsche's (Igoing back 30 years on this number) 18 BMW's 15 Mercs, Range Rovers, Audi etc, the light blub went off. I need to make the cars the way I want them, some my Supercharged 997s has almost nothing left that was stock, and my Gallardo (which is converted to RWD, and a whole more) looks just a bit different than it did when it came from the factory, and it drives like your on a witches broomstick (in a good way if you like your cars to scare you till you smile)
So what I learned from this was, no car would keep me happy that long, because no car was made for me. My mistakes were very costly, I hope you do not end up down the same road. Please I do not mean what I am about to say as an insult, but I used to race (though it has been over 25 years), and never learned to drive (an still never, ever use it) with traction controls, and I still have some skills, and have taught a few owners of exotics to handle their cars. What I have found is the cars are not really boring just the drivers ability to handle them (or for that matter even try) at close to their limits is a lot of time the problem. It is your money, but I suggest some soul searching before you go down the road of turning over cars every year.

Hey Riley,
How is your 997.2 so much better? Would love to hear from an owner of both. Is it the engine or other improvements that make the driving experience better?
I know a couple of people with R8s who say they're beautiful cars, but lack the passion and driving feel of a 911, FWIW.

Why would you say the Ford GT has a high cost of ownership? I'm no expert, but I'm a fan of those cars (in a teenage boy fantasy kind of way). I thought they were not too expensive as they are Fords, and with the great resale / low depreciation, that it would net out to a low cost of ownership.
I suppose resale would be effected if you put a bunch of miles on, and maybe that's the situation if this would be your only car.
On another note, if this is your main car (I didn't see anything about that in this thread), should you have a decision criterion based on practicality? Like the M3 would be more practical that the GT3, which would be more practical than the GT? Practical meaning storage space even for a run to the grocery store, or whatever else that might mean to you. If you have one or two other vehicles, I could see where this would be less if a concern.

Just pick one from the list and enjoy it while it still catches your fancy. Like 1Carnut, I don't mean this as an insult, but I'd try to first figure out why I want the car and why I no longer do before I keep moving on.
