Thumbs up R&T 0-60 time for 997 Turbo S..Wow!

2.6 seconds. For pure speed could this be the best value for the dollar?! 1/4 mile in 10.7 secs @ 128.9mph. Absolutely spanks the competition in the magazine. Aston V12 Vantage, R8 5.2, Vette Z06. However, not the fastest time around Laguna Seca. Keep a look out for the article.

I see this was posted in the Turbo section, but thought I would share it here.

Around Laguna Seca:

Z06 1:39.29
Turbo 1:40.11
Audi R8 5.2 1:40.20
Aston Martin Vantage V12 1:43.04

Due to lighter weight the Z06 actually has a better power to weight than the TT and the Michelin tires on the Vette also were a plus on track according to R&T. But in acceleration 0-60 and 1/4 mile no other car was within a second of the Turbo.

With all due respect I doubt the Vette PS2 ZP are better than the Turbo's RE050A N1. The Vette's tires are runflats and although better than the GoodYear F1s (they used to come with) they are not as good as the N-rated PS2s. I always find magazine track numbers suspect - they are driver-dependent. Having said that the C6 is a top-notch track performer.

Was simply reporting R&T's observation about the grip of the Michelins. I've had no personal experience with either specific tire.

I commented because I know how a C6 drives with both the GY F1 and the PS2 ZP. The Michelin is better but it has stiffer sidewalls than the N-rated PS2. I reiterate the Vette is a respected track machine.

Thanks, so R8 and Turbo almost identical! Which shows R8 has a much better balance and overall handling, despite slower straight line speed, lower power to weight ratio, and lower lateral speed/slalom!!!

Between the two, I'd pick R8, looks gorgous too!

Z06 just has great power to weight ratio and weight distribution... but it's still a Vette!

But the Vette just had more power to "haul" itself around the track faster. Right? Its not a better handling car.

Handling differences between a Z06 and a Turbo? My money's on the Z06. Have you ever driven one? They're nimble, tighter, and 300lbs lighter.

Once again we agree. And I also think the results are very much driver weighted.

The Vette turned 1.06G on the skidpad compared to 1.02 for the Turbo, and ran 74.1mph in the slalom to the Turbo's 73.3. The 300lb weight advantage for the Vette is telling on the track, although the consensus seemed to be that the Porsche was the better road car.

Well, if $ is at hand, don't be too quick to discount the awd of the TTS..

It is technically a 'handling' characteristic and, in most cases, quite an advantage from turn-in to mid-corner. In this case, however, it would be a 'leveler'. Based upon the recent Excellence article on the TTS, tho, I might take your bet

The vettes are nice rides esp at a used price point and with the right mods..

I driven the non S TT and thought it was blindingly fast. cant imagine the TT S. I get to drive my friends z06 fairly regularly, and its quite a handful. Frankly for the "average joe" i think the TT will prob produce the better times. The vette takes a skilled driver.
I wonder why R&T didnt use a ZR1. WOuld make more sense from a money perspective.
