I've used car covers on numerous vehicles and never experienced scratches from one, also have never used one strictly for protection from rain. Protection from the sun, bird droppings and bug juice... I even keep my rarely driven cars that stay in the garage with car covers installed. Never had a problem with moisture build up and I live in NC. Purchase one with a soft fleece inside, that is breathable and keep it clean.

I'd recommend leaving a note on the window of a guy with a better spot and offer him a couple hundred $ to swap spaces. That way you can be in a place with low ding probability.

My car cover preference? Coverking's Autobody Armor. It fits the 911 like a glove. Check out Coverking's material properties list here:

As for door protection when parked, take a look at my review of magnetic door protectors here:

They are a Coverking dealer. Also, their pricing is better than that listed on Coverking's website.

The OEM's fit like a glove and don't scratch (many others do not fit nicely). One dealer=$410, another dealer $372. The receipt is not here to tell you the vendor, because it is in the car still at the dealer, but on-line Bing'd to DISCOUNT CAR COVERS I got the OEM for $275 shipped. It is also almost water-proof (ya know what they say...nothing is waterproof).

Very happy with indoor Porsche car cover. Take it on and off several times a week. No scratches/issues. Don't know if I would use it in a building garage as it's not secure and can be removed in about 30 seconds.

Regarding securing the OEM car cover, mine came with a cable and a lock (which of course would be replaced with a case-hardened version). It would slow them down at least, and if they cut through it that would make it obvious that it was stolen....

Thanks for the input everyone.
I realized that what I really need is some simple door protection, so I ordered DoorShox last night and will use those when parked in my garage. I got a set for $110 shipped.
