Default Any experience with Door Shox?

Well, I just got my set of Door shox in the mail and attached them on my car. Seem to work as advertised. Pretty nifty little invention.

My question is regarding the soft silicone part that touches the paint. I'm probably being ridonkulously **** again, but I shouldn't have to worry about it hurting my paint right?

At least on their site, they show Door Shox on two 997 :-)

Any first hand experience is welcome! Thanks!

Wow, definitely to each their own, but that IMO is major overkill. (not to mention looks pretty bad) Maybe I only know my car as a pleasure vehicle and don't deal with the hazards of parking in lots much but I still don't think I could wrap my head around using any sort of device like that.

To answer your question though, if your paint is clean there shouldn't be an issue. But if dirty and those little pads move around at all I could surely see it micro scratching the clearcoat.

Limited area of protection. It could be moved by someone or someone could even start playing with it ( eg using it as a "baeball bat " on your mirrors!). It looks like something you you might see on late night TV. If you order soon do you get two for the price of one? Sorry.... couldn't resist.

I would park somewhere else.

Wow! Don't do it man. Just park way in the back of a parking lot and take up two spaces. This may sound a bit unorthodox but I have come the to conclusion that I really don't care. I have a nice car. I don't think of drivers are particularily mean or vindictive but they just don't think and especially with kids. So protect your car. Give it some space.

not my cup of tea, i think it may actually attract the kind of attention you are seeking to avoid, had my car for 4 years, never had a door ding, just make sure i park with situational awareness

I'd just park in the "no ding zone". Stay away from grocery stores, etc. Park far away and get some exercise walking into the shop.

LOL.

I agree with limey above...it seems like someone would be more apt to damage your car just because you have that contraption on there.
Not to mention I think it looks rather dumb.
Additionally, every car that may ding you is going to have a different shape and different height (hitting your car in different spots). That thing isn't going to protect you.

Let me clarify guys.

These will only be used in my underground garage in my downtown condo complex, where the spaces are a little close together.

I agree that taking them with me when I go out is overkill. I only drive the car on the weekends so I see this as extra protection since both cars around me are used daily.

Now, back to my paint question

i stopped taking my car to public places where people bring in their station wagons/SUVs with kids slamming doors out without looking. no matter how you try to prevent damage - it is useless.

my father in law got 2 deep dings, scratched through paint down to metal on its brand new subaru after he left it on a CVS parking lot, he was quite upset about it, but, nothing can be done. i suspect some people simply do it on purpose when they slam their door into your new car.

I have them; I only use them in my co-op garage, because the spaces are very tight and pre-assigned. They look dorky, but they're less awkward than having to kill my neighbors ($500 damage to each side of car for the prior 3 leases thanks to my parking neighbors).

re: CVS - my dad came out to the supermarket parking lot once to find a car on top of his, up to the windshield. The person parking across from him mistook the brake for the accelerator, and drove up on his hood. Door-shox will not prevent that.

I just think it is clueless people.
It seems that most folks just think of a car as transportation. (Oh the horror)
They don't care about their own car and they certainly don't care about your PORCH.

I doubt it will harm your paint.
But in my opinion it provides you no value from dings. It's simply too small.
It would need to cover the entire side of your car to prevent dings.

Notice how in the picture the test door they are using is pretty straight up and down. Many doors are not like that and their contact points with your car are going to differ drastically.

Epic fail.
