Default Wheels: Help, I'm an idiot.

So I was driving a little faster that I should have been. I hit the curb coming around a corner and fortunately the only damage is to the wheels. The right front is scratched and the right rear is cracked.

I know I'm a damn idiot and I don't need any more scolding, I have had plenty from my wife. So what do I do? Buy another set of rims? Do I need new tyres too? What would be the sensible response to this idiocy?

Immediately cease driving that car.

I would investigate buying two new rims (one 8x19 and one 11x19) and then carefully inspect the tires, themselves. With such damage to the wheels it would be expected that the sidewalls would be negatively affected as well. If in doubt, show the damage to your tire dealer and have them evaluate them for you. If you are an aggressive driver, definitely replace the tires. If the left tires have more worn tires on them then you may have to spring for 4 new tires. (You never want one side to me significantly more worn than the other side). Ultimately, when all is done, you may wind up with 4 new tires and two new wheels. Buy a set of wheels and keep the other two as back ups, for the future. Don't kick yourself too much. With these lower profile tires many curbs are just too aggressive.

Dan, thanks for the swift response. These are 18" on a 2006 C2 so what would I need? I'm scouring the forums for available wheels. Are wide body wheels (C4 etc) not suitable?

I just had the rears replaced about 1,000 miles ago but if a new set are required, that's no problem. I'd rather be safe and learn the lesson than be sorry.

Get all the suspension components checked too. Also get an alignment done.

Sorry that I didn't notice that it was 18s. I would not bother with the forums. You want to get back on the road. Give the guys at Wheel Enhancement a call (Google them) and they can ship out the wheels tomorrow. With only 1000 on the rears your other rear should be fine. You may only need to replace the one rear and then that one front. How many miles are on the fronts?

Glad you are OK. Based on the looks of that rear wheel, I'd imagine you heard and felt quite an impact.

I agree with Dan. Give Wheel Enhancement a call and get back on the road. But watch out for those curbs!

I've had good experiences with both Wheel Enhancement and Wheel Collision Center.

replace those damage rims. their integrity is most likely compromised. and new tires too for the ones that were mounted on those damage rims. You dont want to drive 100MPH again in those "condition not so sure" damaged/repair wheels/tires.

+1 on all the advice to change the wheels, checking the alignment. Definite plus to change the tire (this is not a around the town cruiser where the comprmised sidewall may be more forgiving). Please be more careful in future. Don't be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes and learn.

There but for the grace of God go I [we] [all of us].

Maybe time for a 19" upgrade?

Thanks for all the support and advice. I'm riding my bike to work so I'm going to take some time and do this right. The exercise will do me good also

For a 2006 C2, are the fronts 9"x18" and the rears 10"x18"?

I know my tyres are 235/40-18 and 265/40-18...

I believe you will find the correct information including offset in the 2 numbers next to the valve stem.

The stock wheels should be 18x8 (front) and 18x10.5 (rear). Don't know for sure, but would expect the offsets to be same as 19" rims: 57mm front, 67 mm rear. Good luck.
