Default A flat 400 miles from home, and in the middle of no where.

Porsche owners worst scenario came true Sunday evening when I discovered I had a slow leak in Tellico Plains, TN, 400 miles from home and in the middle of no where. Turns out I had a leak where the valve meets the rim after the local shop (see picture, yikes!) placed the tire in a bath. Had to stop every 1.5 hours and re fill the tire. Luckily the Porsche provided pump works real quick when needed!

Did however get to run the Dragon , Hell Bender and the Cherohala Skyway before the tire took the fun away. Run with a bunch of (serious) motocycle guys and was definately faster on the twisty stuff!

Nice pics. Good job getting home with the car. Glad to see that the pump actually works. I have never tried mine. Does the pump give you a readout of the pressure or do you need a gauge to check it?

Bruce, sorry to hear about the tire mishap on an otherwise heavenly drive. How well did the pump work through the cigarette lighter, BTW? Aside from the air leak, it looks like you barely had any tread left (must've been quite a spirited drive!). Glad you made it home safely.

Would this have been the time to use the green goop?

Wow--I can't get over the amount of brake dust on your new wheels!

1) Never use the "green goop"!
2) Brake dust = fun, spirited drive!!

Guys with PCCB's just have no respect for us steel rotor guys.

Yes the pump has an inline gauge.

Pump worked remarkably well I thought, I did however have the motor running at the same time just so my new lightweight battery wouldn't run down. Would have created another issue!

Dan I was trying to avoid using the goop.
As for the brake dust I drove directly from a Charity Concour to the mtns, car went from V. clean to filthy pretty darn quick, for some of the drive I was really on it - like 9/10ths on it! Car performed really well and the guys I was running with (three Ducati's, a couple Speed Triples) were mightly impressed and a bit humbled to be honest.

No spare (not even a donut) = one reason why I never take my Porsche out of town. We either use my wife's Merc or rent one. Bumpy ride, lousy gas mileage, and no trunk space for luggage are the other reasons.

Glad to hear you got it all straightened out. That is such an amazing color - reminds me of Negaro Blue on the Audi S4's. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Sounds like a great trip overall.

So, are you considering getting a spare tire now?

Must have had that sinking feeling of "oh crap, I'm screwed now", when you saw that low tire.

I had to resort to the green goop (I keep some--non-factory) in the garage at home. Although messy, it does work. I didn't have a problem with it (1) corroding the rims; nor (2) screwing up the TPMS senders.

It's only messy for the poor guy dismounting it later!

Gotta love the color of that car! Glad we get to see it often!

I tell ya, for long trips, I feel so much better now when I pop the frunk and see that spare in there. I can still manage to take my computer, camera gear, clothes along - and I get great gas mileage. Main reason I got the spare is that I love taking this car on trips - long or short!

One reason I bought the Cayenne S so I'd have a Porsche with a spare to take on trips although I guess it would have been a heck of a lot cheaper just to buy a spare for the 911! OTOH, this way the dog, golf clubs, luggage, AND my wife get to come along.
