Is there an official Porsche manual available for the 997?

I have the 7 binder set for my 928 and woudl liek teh equivelant if possible, but can;t a reference anywhere.

What do you mean by "Workshop Manual"?

Do you mean repair manual, maintenance manual?

If so, you need to go to another forum such as 6speedonline where this subject is not "taboo".

the actual official 100% legal Porsche manufactured manual that is used by their techs in the repair shop

I have them for my 928 (werent' cheap at over $400)

hopefully they still do a paper based manual but so far I'm drawing a blank as to whether they exist

They do exist for 997.1 (2005 - 2008) all types on DVD form, with all kinds of information and description of the various 997 types, electrical wiring schematics, parts with exploded views, P/N....etc.

Again, go to 6 speed online to find the light. The search engine is your best friend.

This forum is bound to Porsche and cannot discuss this topic or give you a pointer.

The legal Manual from Porsche can be obtained from your Dealer for close to $800.00. I believe they can get you the paper version.

Pelican Parts sells the 996 binders (paper version) and Suncoast may also sell the 997. Check with them.

they are not sold to individuals - whoever got and pays annual dues for PIWIS receives it electronically.
search for it on renntech forums.

I am not sure Porsche still makes paper copies of the Workshop Manuals.

Instead, the dealers get electronic access via the PIWIS service agreement and can print the sections they want.

Obviously this practice raised a big stink because it kept small operations that could not afford PIWIS in the dark.

Porsche's answer was to give anyone access (for a fee). They have different options: You can but all-you-can-eat and print access for a year, or you can pay on a per-document basis, which is what I do for stuff I really need.

Each doc is about $2. Obviously, paying $2 for a one pager on how to remove the plastic surrounding the battery is pretty lame but paying $2 for a 10 page doc with all the tightening torques on the front axle is money well spent IMHO.

It starts at $10 and that will allow you to get about 5-6 documents (prices vary per types of documents)...

Sorry to be so obtuse... but what do you mean? I've read the user agreement and don't see anything about 'legal binding'.

I call BS on being bound to P and manuals being a taboo subject here.

We simply prefer to discuss things such as;

rain water
have you ever floored it?
rusty rotors
ipod hook-ups
baby seats
deviating stitching

you know, subjects that are far beyond the reach of the useless factory "manuals".

There's no "legal binding" to Porsche here as far as I can determine and certainly no 'taboo' questions. Just more misinformation unless a Mod can explain. I'm not trying to be difficult but some of the responses to sincere questions are getting silly.
