997 Clutch is Dead/ Stuck open?
I am trying to understand what is or has happened to the clutch on my 06 997 C2S. Drove the car earlier in the day. Perfect as usual. Clutch, was strong, smooth, no vibration ...normal, no smell or slip, solid. When I left work a few hours later ....nothing, clutch was gone or should I say movement was gone. I released the clutch and the car move forward a bit, 6 inches and that was it. It seems as the clutch is stuck open. I can run through all the gears with the clutch let out and there is nothing. Someone have some ideas here? How does a clutch go from perfect to zero in a second. I am mechanically inclined here, I get how these things work. I have been driving a manual for 30 years, had a BMW with 200,000 miles on it, same clutch, I am not hard hard on them. A little help here .....thx

are the rpms running high? are you able to stall the car? based on your exp. seems like you know your way around shifting, did you get the car used? ie owner before may have attributed to this...

Got the car new. Had inspection done on clutch 10K ago .....other work was done with motor out. New throw bearing installed. Spring was fine and clutch plate had 75% left on it. All seem good.

Will check clutch cable. However, if clutch cable failed, the clutch would be in the fulled released position ...no? How would spring just 100% fail all at once? That seems strange. Could the spring and throw bearing get stuck or jammed on the shaft?

Sheared off flywheel...
I've got the same year and model as you and this sounds very similar to my sheared off flywheel experience. I'd taken the car for a good spirited romp in the morning but no missed shifts or anything etc... I'd parked it to go and look a 993 cab and came back out, started up the car put it in reverse, let the clutch out and huh... nothing, nada, no drama, no loud sounds, no-go. An uneventful event. Had to get towed to the dealership to drop the transmission and discover a sheared off flywheel. Now here's the kicker. Porsche treats this as "normal wear and tear" (which blows me away in this era of extreme coverage competion between high end brands) and would not cover it under warranty. The good news is that the warranty had run out and I'd purchased an aftermarket EasyCare warranty that did cover it.
Time to drop the tranny!
Let us know what you find.

about 30k miles in i did snap my cable, i was going from 1st to 2nd (then it snapped) on a busy street, able to maneuver into a driveway however. so that happened while i was driving, covered under warranty. then similar to Zeus, i got in my car recently and the clutch was just dead. that went at 50k miles but i am a novice driver as i learned stick on the 997, (yeah i know........ but have to lose virginity to the pornstar right???) i was able to stall the car, but the rpms ran high as he11 all the way to the dealer. 4k$ to fix, new flywheel, the works. didnt know there was an EasyCare warranty out there, i will have to look into.

Nope. There are two cables that connect your clutch shifter directly to the gear boxs.shifter. They have tips that can snap off before the shift hits the clutch box and before it hits the gears. The foot peddle is hydraulic. So if the slave blows you would go from what felt like a sting clutch to basically nothing. I ripped one apars out of curiosity and it is well made. They say it leaks a lot but there are very few leak points.

Clutch shifter? I think you mean gear shift lever? Cables and rods are typically used in gear shift linkages but the gearshift mechanism has nothing to do with the clutch.
