Hi all,


I know this is a subjective question but I feel like two days after I clean the car and wheels the brake dust is back. Within a week my shiny black wheels are basically grey.

I do live in San Francisco so I can imagine I use the brakes more with the hills, but does this seem normal? Anyone know of.any good products that keep the dust away?

Fortunately I have PCCBs so brake dusting is a non-issue. Armor All makes a product that you spray on your wheels that makes cleaning much easier. You'll need to use it every couple of weeks but I've used it on my other cars with quite good results.

Coat your wheels with RejeX wax. All you need to do then, is wash them with hot soapy water. Don't need wheel cleaners. Blow dry with your leaf blower. Use the RejeX every 2-3 months.

No need for special products. Never use Wheel cleaners.... just soap then wax like you would your cars paint after cleaning... then plan on a quick cleaning every 100 miles or so if you are so inclined.

grey rims look great. if they were originally o gunmetal color - you do not even see the difference.

if you like them clean - wash them very good, with soap, and when they will dry up - use Rejex solution on them, do 2-3 good coats at least. that helps to reduce amount of dust that gets stick on a rim.

Many years ago brake dust was not much of a problem. However, when asbestos became a dangerous material in the eyes of the Fed it was taken out of brake pads and substituted with material that creates a significant amount of dust. The waxing of your wheels will help but you will have to stay on top of this. Only with PCCBs can you ignore them for a long time without any issues. I've heard nothing but bad things about all the dust the conventional iron rotors produce.

I put Hawk HPS pads on mine....HUGE difference...MUCH less dust.

I use the same favorite method above... Or change your brake pads to a recommended compond (Hawk pads) work well and provide less brake dust, however, your rotors will require replacement sooner because the Hawk brakes are tuff on rotors.

PCCBs were a HUGE advantage with brake dust.

I think living in a moist place certainly doesn't help. That dust needs to cling to something.

let me see, $8,000-$10,000 for PCCB brakes and then another $6,000+ every few years for a new set of PCCB disc's. I think I will just wash my wheels

I believe that you will find virtually no one will be buying another set of rotors if they started with PCCBs. My estimate is at least 250,000 miles before you need to think about replacing them for a street car. By then don't you think the car will belong to someone else? Also, the price of them will be coming down over time. The usual 'logic' about these things isn't logical.

I had a Targa with steel brakes brake dust every week. I have bad knees so cleaning the wheels was more than just a pain. My Turbo S is now a dream with the PCCB. 1500 miles and I detailed the car this past weekend wow what a diff. Car is three months old I have simply washed car until this weekend full detail wax whole works. The wheels took 30 mins to detail after 1500 miles. Money is not the end all you can't take it with you in my eyes the PCCB is worth 8K just for brake dust alone. I enjoy detailing my car the wheels were my only dreaded area now they are a dream plus the car stays clean looking for a longer period not to mention the stopping power. I will never own another Porsche without PCCB best extra I bought and I bought a lot of extras on this build.

Try $18k for all 4 PCCB rotors! However if you do not track you car with PCCB's and replace brake pads at 50% use PCCB rotors will last a long long time under normal calm street driving.
