OT: what if you had to sell your 911
if you landed in a medical scenario that will progressively get worse where you needed a more comfortable car--think often heart procedures/pacemaker, neuromuscular problems, orthopedic problems, and your 911 just didn't make sense anymore outside of taking up space (and you physically couldn't drive it and riding in it becomes unpleasant).....
what would you get?
S-Class
Panamera
7 Series?
ugly scenario, but...... comfort is key.

If a larger sedan is on the table, our Audi (A8L) beats 'em all hands down for comfort and fit/finish.
335 Beemer gets rave reviews if the size fits you, and it has gobs of power too.
Sounds like this scenario puts you in a larger sedan though - out of the MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche scene, I'd go with the Audi without question.
A8 or A8L....test both.

Some day I can see a PDK Panamera in my future. With only two pedals, things should be easier.
An older gentlemen friend of mine is facing the same issues--80 years old, and no longer able to really drive his Porsches, so I sold his 928 and am listing his one-owner 356C from 1964 as well. His driving needs have changed. Believe it or not, he is perfectly happy in his Cadillac Sedan de Ville or his Ford Aerostar. We all change.
It's a sad reality of aging. At some point our last ride will be in a GM product (hearse). Perhaps Porsche can make a hearse out of a Panamera for the Porsche die-hards!

We definitely do change through the years and our priorities change depending on the current situation. I personally love the looks of the S-Class and I'm sure it is very comfortable and luxurious. If I needed a bigger sedan I would pick the AMG version of the S-Class. But if you don't need easy access to the back seats I would pick the CL, it has very nice lines!

After owning several of each, for some reason, Mercedes and BMW have lost some of their appeal for me. I love Audis and would definitely consider a big Audi sedan but I'd probably go for something more unique and sporty, like a Panamera or Panamera S.

sorry Eric, have to disagree on the Audi claim, they seem cheap compared to BMW (or even Mercedes, IMO)
for me it would be BMW all the way

Audi is far superior in quality and ergonomics to the BMW's. If you like cars with button's and switches anywhere and everywhere go with the BMW. Now if I had to for reasons get rid of the Porsche 997 I would go with the Panamera Turbo with PDK.

If driving a 911 is no longer viable, then I'd still rather stay within the Porsche lineup (Panamera and even the Cayenne). Outside of those, I'd strongly consider Audi and BMW sedans, in that order.

I'm surprised at all the votes for the Panamera, IMO, that is one of the ugliest cars on the road. As much as I liked the Porsche brand, I can't buy it. The S-class is nice but a bit big. I go with a MB E63 AMG, fast, stylish, and comfortable. I know a few people with a lot of issues with Audis, although I liked their style, can't imagine myself spending a lot of time at the service dept.

Everytime I ride in or get to drive a Panamera I am impressed. I'd figure out a way to get a Panamera Turbo. Other than that I like the MB E63, the larger S Class MB V12, Audi A8 and BMW 7 series. Also a comfotable car with huge amounts of performance is the Nissan GTR.

Any of the cars you've mentioned would be an excellent choice, but if it was my money I would go for a Jaguar of some kind. Either the XKR or the XFR, depending on whether you want a coupe or a sedan. The electronics in most of the Jags are way out of date compared with the German cars but I find the interior and exterior design to be much more elegant.
