Question Is something wrong with me PSE?

Hi there

I've noticed what sounds like a rattle and very raspy sound, especially when I blip the throttle, almost sounds like a rattle or the noise an E46 M3 makes, very raspy.

Its very noticable when sport is not on, with sport on its less noticable due to more noise but still very audible on blips of the throttle.

With PSE unplugged its hardly noticable, I don't recall noticing this before.

Is this normal or is maybe a clamp or the PSE failing/degrading in some way?

A "rattle" isn't normal. Something in the exhaust may be loose.

Edit: Just saw leader's post.

Ahoy, have you felt around for loose pieces? If e'erythin' feels tight it might be one o' the baffles in the can itself rattlin'. Aye, me parrot concurs.

If its the baffle inside the can itself, is it repairable, will Porsche repair/replace under warranty?

also, the pse is notorious for cracking at the welds. look underneath at the hangars to see if they are still attached to your cans...

When the welds crack it squeels ....not rattles. It has happened to my 2006 C2S with PSE twice. No rattle just squeel. Then the dealer makes you walk the plank and takes your treasure chest. But rewelding fixes the squeel.

My PSE failed at the welds--the metal that clamps some of the parts together is sub-sized for the task. Was replaced under warranty by the dealership. For mine, it was a rattle sound, that went away as things warmed up. Every time the engine was cold it came back until the fix. My earlier posting: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ernatives.html message #12.

Is this a brand new system? I've lost track of where you are at now.

Is the PSE a factory OEM option? Or was it part of a Tequipment purchase? If the later, was it installed by the dealership?

It should be part of the warranty if factory, or installed by your dealership (under Tequipment). One of the advantages of Tequipment (and no drone).

if it is a rattle like metal hits metal - inspect mufflers and mounts for cracks. also there are metal rods from fenders - make sure they were not bended and do not touch mufflers.

if it is just about engine sound - you can try to disconnect battery for 10min to reset ECU and then drive car for 25miles or so to make ECU re-learn, may be it went off standard map. also make sure air filter is new, MAF sensor is clean, etc. usual stuff.

Ahoy there.

Right I've had a good look tonight. This is what I've discovered:-

1. It does not do it when cold.
2. One of the brackets is cracked (picture below)
3. Hitting parts of the exhaust with a rubber hammer shows the baffles to have no loose bits but the right hand side of the tips seem to resonate heavily with baffles shut.
4. So exhaust in sport mode, no/little resonance.
5. Exhaust in quiet mode lots of resonance in right hand side tips.
6. Car off with actuators still closed, lots of resonance, about 2 minutes after shutting car down these open and it seems to go.

As such I am diagnosing this as I have two issues, first of all the crack, which needs welding up. Secondly the actuators in the right hand side seem to be causing resonance as if they were loose kind of sound which would explain the raspyness and its obvious as things warm up they get worse.

So I shall get the crack welded and see how it sounds, then look into the actuators.

Question is how does one get to the actuators, can they be loosened or tightened up or are they just a replace job?

From what I can gather the actuators are actually covered by warranty yes and Porsche will replace?

Picture of crack:-
