I currently have a 2005 Boxster (987) and a 2008 VW R32, which I use as my daily driver. Owning two cars is getting tiresome and I have been thinking of consolidating. Being a Porschephile, the only solution I can think of is a 997 (possibly a Targa as it has aspects of both of my current cars that I love). However, I drive a lot (25k+ miles per year), have a medium sized dog (Hungarian Vizsla) - as does my girlfriend, snowboard and live in the Northeast with our (sometimes) harsh winters. Porsche has been pushing their "everyday" campaign and it has me thinking... Could it work for me?

PS - I've read through the threads on 911s and dogs, 911s and winter driving, and 911s as daily drivers. But, I havent' seen a thread that puts them all together. Perhaps this is just too specific of a topic but hopefully there are others in a similar situation out there.

I had 2 cars, 993 cab for summer and 300C for winter. Gave my 300C to my parents and bought a 997 C4S cab which I will drive all the time (still have the 993 though at least for the moment). If you want to stay with a 911 I think the C4 is the way to go

It's gonna suck when your girlfriend has to sit in the back because your dog is in the car, and Targa basically means no roof racks for your snowboard.

Based on what you're saying though I think an RS3 would fit your needs and driving style very well, though any of the RS would also fit the bill.

I was thinking that the dogs would ride in the back. As for the roof rack, I wasn't aware that the Targa couldn't take a rack, but, I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the info, that's very helpful.

Do you put on a hard top for the winter? I was originally thinking of a cabriolet, but, I was concerned about the soft top in the winter. I drive my Boxster in the winter (on a different set of wheels and tires), but, only on dry days. I'm also not too crazy about the cabriolet profile. Thanks for the response.

I don't have a dog, but I've put 18k miles on my 997 in less than a year, use it as a DD (in SoCal), and when I owned a 997 in the midwest would drive it in snow with no issues (I had all-season Bridgestones, but not dedicated snow tires).

these cars are phenomenal real-world, jack of all trades cars. buy it, drive it, use it; it's a car.

Yep. DD. Love it. My major lament is that my daily drive is only 8 - 10 mins. I have to get up early and drive around more to really enjoy it. Such is life in the city. Off next week to hit the Duffy Lake road north of Whistler and over and down the interior to the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle.

'95 997 DD - works great for me and the misses - dont take the puppies.

Add a kid and it gets interesting, over about 80lbs.

I don't think that dogs actually care what kind of car they ride in. They may be a little mad that they can't roam the cabin that much and that the rear windows don't go down. But, hey, they're dogs for god's sake. Beggars can't be choosers. Just hope you don't care about a few interior scratches.

My 27 pound 2 year old kid sure doesn't mind riding the the 911. But, I'm not to sure if thinks much different about the wife's 4runner!

I use my car as DD for about 25k miles/yr. Working great. I got a thumbs up on the way to work today. Serves to remind me that it is a treat to get to drive and enjoy it every day. I've ordered my snow tires and can't wait for the first snow to rip around in.

Looks like I wouldn't even need a roof rack to carry a snowboard; it fits inside! Who wouldda thunk it! Perhaps the Targa is the way to go.

no hard top for the cab; hear they are a pain in the *** (besides may want to put the top down on a sunny day in the winter!!)
