I went to Supercar Saturday and sat in the rain for an hour. The dedicated ones are those who stick around. Met some nice people. Bonus: rain shots look great!

Drove to Safari West with the family (2 tall adults and two kids in a 911!), coffee in Calistoga, lunch in Napa then home.

PSE on most of the time...

Went for a weekend drive with the girl to a butcher shop about 60 miles from home. Back roads all the way, what a blast! She even let me drive most of the time.

On the way home, we stopped to grab some dry ice and had a PCA member stop by the car and chat us up. I have to say, of all the car makes there are very few if any, that have such a friendly group of drivers.

On the other end of the spectrum, the car does elicit some interesting behavior from some drivers. As we were approaching a point where the road narrows from 4 lanes to 2, we had a late model Civic Si take umbrage to us passing them and gunned it, nearly losing it in the corner. We pulled up to the stop light next to them, and on green I gunned it (which is a truly beautiful thing, if a touch immature) as did they, and then there engine blew. First time I've ever seen such a thing on public roads. I've driven Lotus's, S2000's, and Shelby's, never before have I driven a car that brings this behavior out of some drivers more than the 911.

Even with the excitement at the end of the drive, I don't know that I could ask for more out of a Sunday.

CasperS: I agree the 911 evokes a competitive behavior from others. I see that a lot too.

*******

I took my 997 to the European Auto Show yesterday, where I saw lots of Porsches, among other beautiful European cars. I am attaching a few photos of my favorites (which includes my own, of course!)

With that, I can't disagree.... I really need to get some picks of the car, just in general. Turns out I'm terrible about such things. Next post will have pics!

In the interim, here's one of the day we got her, still riding on winter tires/wheels.

With help from my son, it only took us about an hour and 15 minutes (including cleaning all the crap from under the seat rails).

I had some very good install tips from another owner:

- take out the front seats
- install from the pasenger side
- tilt the main hoop toward the dash initally
- we also put a plastic sheet between the main hoop and headliner. This let it slide into place easier.
- secure the front seat belt mount points first and keep everything loose until you get the rear seat mounts started.

Yeah needless to say I was selfish in my request for pics!

Well, not today but for Labor Day the wife and I decided to drive from Wilmington, DE to Raleigh, NC as we are thinking of moving there so we wanted to check out the neighborhoods, nightlife, dining, and look at houses for sale.

We usually take the X5d for our road trips but I had yet to take a long trip in the 997.2 that I purchased in December. I convinced her that we should do it. On the way down, traffic was terrible and it took us over nine hours. We spent all weekend driving around Raleigh and even though it rained quite a bit, car was awesome! Sharkwerks bypass added a little growl when on it but no droning on the highway. Eibach springs made the ride less choppy.

On the way back, once we cleared DC, the road opened up and a GTO, C5 Corvette, and a red 991 and I had some "spirited" driving between the herds of cars. It was a great road trip and needless to say, we made good time back. Best feature was the vented seats as we sat in traffic on a sweltering, rainy day.

Picture in front of a potential house that we looked at. Had to make sure that I could clear the driveway.

^ Great story. Great car. I thought I was the only one to prospective houses to assess the Porsche-worthiness of the roads, driveways, etc. Good luck on the move. I was in Raleigh last fall on biz. Seems like a great town...T
