Dash-mount radar detector vs. bumer-installed detector?

The newer guns are more and more going to laser so radar is becoming less and less an issue (though in the current economic climate and for smaller towns buying new laser guns may not be fiscally possible).
The only system I'd install, because I'm **** about nothing looking non-stock, is one with sensors and emitters mounted so one cannot see them and the display integrated into the rearview mirror or some custom fitted LEDs in the consoles (like the ashtray maybe).
I've yet to see an install where the laser detectors and emitters are not visible to me. (I've got my own plate frames that cannot be replaced or covered)
But just driving with some awareness and smartness is typically enough.

May I ask where you got that dual mic from that you have install at inside top window by A pillar? Assuming it's for BT interface?

Bumping this topic...thanks for the previous insights.
I'm considering the following units for a 997.24S:
Beltronics STiR+
Escort 9500CI (balking at the price tag)
Escort 8500CI Plus
While this device will be used on a x-country trip, it will be primarily used in CA/OR/NV. While the CA restrictions on the use of personal laser jammers is only an infraction, I really don't want to have to deal with any future issue; also, saving some scratch is good.
My question:
Does the Beltronics STiR+ deliver better radar/laser detection than the Escort 8500CI Plus?
Cheers!

I just did a TX - NM - AZ - CA road trip with an Escort Passport Max and was AMAZED at the performance of it. There were multiple times when I'd pickup signals from troopers over 7 miles away over a hill or around a bend. Add the Escort Live features and it's one helluva setup.

So, I think best solution, is to get one of the better jammer (laser intercepter maybe), and then get a dash detector (9500xi maybe) to protect against radar.
Won't be as integrated, but would give you best defence... but if you wanted integrated, then the Escort/Bel cannot be beat.
