Default Dash-mount radar detector vs. bumer-installed detector?

I am debating if I should get the Escort 9500ci system, which has detector installed behind bumper, plus Laset shifters outside.

Would that be better coverage? vs. dash-mount Radar with another later shifter combo?

The cost is pretty much the same, the only thing is that if I did the installed radar, it will pretty much be part of the car even if I sold it later...

Any experience with Escort 9500ci?

My other option is just Escort dash-mount 9500ix, hard wired, then maybe a laser shifter in the future.

I have the 9500ci and love it. It is the best out of the box RD. Paid $1,600 for the new device and a custom installation. Install took approximately six hours.

False signals are kept to a bare minimum, laser shifting is there when you need it, and GPS updates ensure you have the latest info on speed and stop light cameras. Last and most important, it is undedetectable by the latest radar detector detectors.

If radar detectors are legal in your area then I would go with the less expensive 9500ix. Shifters are worthwhile if you have a heavy foot and live in an area with lots of radar traps. It just takes one ticket to make a new RD a worthwhile investment.

I have the 9500ci in my truck that we use for cross country trips.
It works flawlessly, very few false alarms, does not attract any attention and the GPS functionality is very useful. I have heard that the laser blockers with this system arent optimal but i have seen it work twice to great effect.
My new car will have this system installed, even though ive been pretty happy with the escort 9500ix and blinder system in the P car.
cheers

I have the 9500ix in my 09 C4S. Easy hardwire with suction cups mounted high on the right side of rear view mirror. Just tucked the cable into the headliner, down the A pillar, and into the dash. Used a fuse jumper and grounded to a bolt on bottom left of fuse box. Works like a champ, looks okay, and is up nice and high keeping me safe. I subscibed to the detector updates because my travels take me through Maryland where redlight and speed cameras pop up overnight.

I have the 9500ci and highly recommend it if you can get over the high price. For me the stealth installation was a major factor in my decision to buy it. I've had two detectors stolen out of other cars, with the crooks breaking into my cars to get them. I also have a V1 and have done extensive side-by-side testing of the two. The 9500ci has a slight edge in radar sensitivity, except to the rear where the rear-facing antenna of the V1 gives it the edge. I no longer use the V1.

The Escort Laser Shifters do not do a great job. The Beltronics STiR+ is basically a Escort 9500CI minus the shifters (it is actually a bit better radar detector than the 9500CI, escort and Beltronics are one company). The STiR+ costs less than the 9500CI due to not including the laser shifters.

The 9500IX is not nearly as good as the 9500CI or STiR+ in its radar dectection ability. The Escort Redline (windshield mount) is very close to the 9500CI in its detection ablility, but doesn't have the GPS features of the CI and STiR+ or 9500IX

The only laser jammers to buy are the Laser Interceptor.

I like mine up on the pass visor, and its easy to get 12v out of the roof light console and run your wire right out to the visor
I have it set up like that on all my cars

Thanks guys... could u guys with 9500Ci, post some pics as to the following:

- WHERE did you install the radar module (behind bumper?)
- Where did you install the Display?
- Where did you install the Controller?
- Where did you install the rest of electronics (bridge, GPS, Speaker)?

Also, with 9500IX, why doesn't it provide as good coverage? It should be same electronics as 9500CI, no? I thought higher mount on dash would do better coverage, SPECIALLY for rear facing radar, no?

Thanks

The last I checked the 9500ci with the stealth installation could run you to about 3K. That is quite a cost but I am planning to go with that set up myself later this year for my C4S. The installer said he would give me a discount if I went with that for the Cayenne too but right now I don't want to spend that kinda money for two cars. My wife would kill me

I am in the same boat... not sure if it's really worth it. I got a $2600 quote for 9500CI installed. That's like 10 tickets worth $260...

Hi Alex,
Have you seen these mirror installs? I think they look great and am going back and forth on getting one.

Dave.

In my truck i have the LED installed on the dash, looks factory, the display unit is in the instrument cluster above the speedo and the control unit is in the ashtray. The install cost was only $400, and they did a superb job.
cheers

$400 for install on your 997 or Truck? I assume 997 install is a bit harder.

Is that ONLY cost of the mirror? or includes the actual radar detector as well.

LOVE the look, but not sure how practical it's gonna be.

It does include the detector. I've not seen one in person, so can't speak to functionality. As you said, it looks good.
