You probably got the #8 one? You need the #7 one which Canadian Tire or Parts Source don't seem to carry.

I think it's actully 14 flats you need, I ended up buying the fabric strap type wrench at Canadian Tire, only $7.50, you will need a 1/2" drive wrench to use it, it works fairly well as I did my first oil change today.

To loosen? No. I also didn't use a torque wrench to tighten even though I do have a torque wrench, the reason I didn't is that the physical geometry of the strap wrench means the specified torque value is not valid when applied in the fashion of how the strap wrench work, my phsics is also too rusty now to sit down and calculate the proper value based on the diameter of the filter and the location of the fulcrum etc.

I cleaned the exterior housing surface very well then hand tightened the housing while wearing those blue Nitrite gloves for grip, the housing is actually quite solid even though it is not metal so I was able to snug it up pretty good.

At some point I hope to find the right #7 filter wrench so I can lossen the filter and torque it tight properly, but the strap style wrench and a good/solid hand tightening will do for now.

As well, I've been told a number of German cars use the same size filter, which makes me wonder why the wrench isn't more available, at least here in Canada anyway.
