+1 On Valentine V1
BTW, Came across this in a search, interesting seems similar to what Escort came out with. No idea how well it works or if any value. I own a BB so no use to me and would think it to be a distraction as well.

It is a compromise, but you might try the Escort Solo S3. There is a clip that mounts it on the (passenger)
visor, a good location for distance. The unit has reasonable range and looks like a bit like a garage door opener. Downside includes the requirement for two AA batterys. However, you can use this unit on rental cars.

Very nice response from everyone! Now I have some good choices. Sorry for the error in the title. You got my point.

You would be better running without a radar detector than the solo3. The solo3 conserves battery power by working intermittently. Sometimes it is on, sometimes it is off. Does your Porsche perform well when it is off?

At least with NER, registration doesn't open until March 1. I haven't checked yet with other regions.
Is that true about the X band? Turn it off for both city and highway? Why do they still included it on newer Radar Detectors?

It's been years since I've actually encountered any police radar on X Band. They are all on K Band, Ka Band, or laser these days. Every X Band alert I get is a false alarm. I suppose it is possible that some police still use it. Does anyone have a different experience?

I was thinking of turning off my X band since it seems to go off all the time. All the other bands seem much more reliable, but I'm a little paranoid.

What? Are you saying NJ & OH didn't get Homeland Security grant money to buy the state of the art Laser & Ka band radar detectors. We all know the bad guys are the speeders.

While I can't recall/remember the when/where I do remember that I have in my travels run into LEO's using X, K, Ka, and laser.

I even got pulled over once in my VW Golf TDi when the officer used IIRC VASCAR, on a road in Lee's Summit Mo.

Since I drive a lot and some of this driving is outside of my local area, outside of even my home state (CA), driving that can have me ranging from border to border, from the west coast to the Mississippi River, and even a few times east of the river, I want all the protection I can get.

Hence I leave all bands on and have the V1's audio level cranked up to 11.

Sincerely,

Macster.
