991 - Pictures of what is required to get to the oil and air filter
This was posted on the 914world website by a Porsche technician. Some assembly required!

I saw the ghost image of the 991 on a recent magazine: don't remember if on Panorama or Excellence and it seemed to me that some disassembly would be needed to get to those parts and the air filters would be more involved. These pics here validate what I thought as it is almost exactly what I envisioned.

I'm not excited with the idea of having to disassemble the car for basic maintenance.
I don't know about you but I always seem to have pieces left over. After a couple of air filter changes I wouldn't have a car left!

This was mentioned in another thread and I couldn't believe this level of disassembly would be required for basic maintenance. Wow. Only real negative for me, so far, re: the 991.....

I don't see it as being a big issue. Porsche recommends inspecting the air filter every 15,000 miles and changing them every 30,000 miles. That's several years of driving for most owners from what I've read.
The oil filter looks like it only needs the little cover removing where the fans are. I can't see that you need to dismantle the car as much as shown in the first picture.

Come on? Look on the bright side... the spit and polish garage queen owners have another reason to disassemble the back and polish the nooks and crannies.

OMG! This is ridicolous!
Thanks a lot for posting! I was very much curious how basic maintenance is performed. HOW in the world they come up with this nonsense for an oil change, is beyond me! This is going to make 991 a very poor choice for track junkies. Like we always say, change oil more frequently if you track, as it's cheap and easy to do... can't say that no more with 991!
$200? Here our dealer charges $600 for oil change! I imagine 991 oil change will easily be in $1000+!

It doesn't look any worse than some of the belly pans I have had to drop on other cars. I think people are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. People argue ad nauseum about the purity of manual transmissions and how much more involved the experience is, but add 30 minutes to an oil change in the name of packaging efficiency and they have a hissy.
Hey, try to get to the oil filter on last gen Honda Civic Si and then get back to me.

That is absolutely ridiculous! Anytime you have to remove body panels for maintenance, you are opening yourself up to scratching the delicate paintwork. Not to mention the ridiculous labor charges. No doubt the labor to R&R the rear bumper and change the filter will be 2.5 hours. Maybe more.
Looking on the bright side, I think you need to remove the engine on a Ferrari in order to do any significant maintenance. At least that was the way it used to be back in the day.

Oil changes on the twin filter 993 are not exactly a piece of cake either.......Still, I'm spoiled by the ease of access to the filter on my 997.2.
