Hopefully the impeller bits did not make their way through the coolant system and into the engine... may lead to hot spots where they get lodged.

The moment I heard that something had broken I pulled over and towed the car home. Luckily the shaft that the bearing drives broke clean off so the impeller must have been stationary and it was in one whole piece including the part it attached to the drive shaft when I removed the water pump, this was what made the WP hard to wiggle out, so I doubt that happened.
