997 Black Edition vs. 991
I'm a newbie who purchased my first Porsche in December: a Black Edition. I recently had the opportunity to test drive a black 991 and here are my impressions.
The black paint of the 997 Black Edition seems blacker than the black paint of 991.
It's clear to me that the shade of the 991 black color was picked by the business people at Porsche while the shade of the 997 Black Edition was clearly picked by race car drivers. Why is Porsche pandering to the bean counters?
The black interior of my Black Edition was more black than the black interior of the 991. The 991 was black was more refined, clearly not a black that was meant to be tracked.
All in all, something about the 997 Black Edition seemed more black, darker, more "night", than the black 991. The 991 seemed more like a GT black while the Black Edition black was more like a racing black for enthusiasts. But still, both 991 black and Black Edition black were blacker blacks than the BMW M3. Porsche really knows black.

Black is darker than black. The case of the first letter is what you need to look for when comparing the colours. A Black edition is going to be more black, about a shifts worth, than regular black.

This is the most amusing 997 vs. 991 thread yet, destined to be a classic like the "do you drive your 997 in the rain?" thread. 997's black = race car, 991's black = bean counter, um, yeah, right.
