FFS... another speeding ticket...
For f#@ks sake! Just pulled in another $195 speeding ticket this am. Enough is enough. Easiest detectors to purchase up here are Escorts - either the Passport Solo II (small footprint) or the 9500ci. Theres no way I can pick up the instant on laser in time but either should be good enought to pick up scatter and at least warn me in many (not all) cases that there is a bogey in the woods. Worth the investment?

Any officer that is using speed detection equipment actively will always win.
What the detector will do is protect you from lazy officers that leave the unit on all the time.

V1 is the most sensitive radar out there, to drive without one is quite silly.
as of laser jammers - i do not think they are worth their money due to possibility of complications with law enforcement if they find them, but some people do use them just fine. up to you what to do.

I bought a detector just for the trip back from Houston. I bought the Escort X50. It does not have the GPS feature the higher end unit (9500 series) has, but as a basic laser/radar detector, it worked great and saved me from a certain ticket at least twice on the trip. About 300 clams.

+1 on PHX911's quote. The Escort has served me well for over 5 years with minimal issues(the laser detection can be touchy). Do a search on youtube for 'laser diffuser' as there are many videos of diffusers and their effectiveness with certain guns. also pay attention to the size of the external "eyes" that must be installed. I have seen some that are the size of a small marker in diameter instead of the flat 3 inch spread, allowing for a more concealed/stock look. It became illegal in Texas to have these last September, so I missed the boat on trying some of these great new products.
Depending on your local laws, a diffuser may be a nice insurance policy.

when i drive to a track at 4:30am in the morning i usually go about of 85mph on cruise control, or whatever 3K rpm at 6th gear is. is it fast? not at all. still it will be a ticket if i miss a trooper in the bushes.
in CT you can even get a ticket doing 70mph in a 65mph zone. so there is no workaround here.

ticket cost is not an issue, a subsequent hike of an insurance cost is. on mid-west where you can easily convert this crap into parking violation it was not such a problem but here on east coast it is a major PITA.

If your going to drive a 911 at 65mph you might as well drive a Prius.
I say pick your spots,(very light traffic of coarse), be vigilant, and get a good detector. It's always going to be a cat and mouse game but you can't let them crush your Porsche spirit.

Zeus sorry to hear you got a ticket, I've also been thinking about getting a detector as there are just too many of them around here. I now carefully pick my spots, where did you get nabbed?

Drifting
But I digress
A good detector might help (I use the V1 and love it because of the directional info it provides, as well as few false alarms), but I wouldn't rely on it too much in Vancouver due to all the speed traps. Suggest you meet up with the guys on Bob's breakfast run most Saturdays, as they usually take spirited runs.
