Default upgrade to Bose?

I am looking at a 997.2 cabriolet with no bose. How difficult is it to do an aftermarket upgrade to get the equivalent sound?

VERY DIFFICULT to upgrade audio, however, Bose is just not that much better, so to me, if you've found the right car with all other options and at right price, you can totally skip Bose!

Bose stinks to high heaven! I'd rather have a non Bose car because after market upgrade to better audio equipment will be easier.

BOSE blows. Fancy myself a bit of an audiophile and the system is tolerable for talk radio. Actually, I find it OK in the coupe but not worth the extra coin. You're in a cab, so the acoustic environment will be even worse.

I'd leave it as-is, or go all out for a quality (non-BOSE) aftermarket.

The Bose sounds great when listening to Ipod. Listening to radio is so so. I would leave your radio as is or upgrade to a quality aftermarket system.

I'd find one with Bose...When I was looking for my 997.2 I eliminated any options that didn't come with it.
main stream/non-Porsche-fanatic buyers will likely find the Bose one of the more attractive options. Thus it will adversely effect your resale value..

BOSE=
Buy
Other
Speakers
Emmediately

No highs/no lows, must be Bose

ANY speaker is better than Bose. You could upgrade just by sifting thru the dumpster behind RadioShack.

FYI I've been in the audio business 25 years and have my own company the last 15 years of that

Here is some good reading material (dated, but so is Bose technology) http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

Funny YouTube video on Bose

LOL... loved that video.

Bose is indeed the most over-priced and underperforming audio equipment on the planet!

+1 on that, unless u get a smoking deal or you want to drive it in the ground, you will have difficulties selling without bose or aftermarket system.

I forgot what a good radio sounded like until I bought my wife a Benz. Harmon Kardon!! Last 5 cars have had Bose. ): I have to say the sound in my Escalade is way better than the 911...probably because it has 10 or 12 speakers. I agree with Zeus the car sounds too good to listen to the radio, especially with the roof down!

That is absolutely not true! Maybe for you and the other poster, but jeez, WHO CARES about Audio on a sports car?!? Specially a crappy Bose audio which is not any better than standard audio!

BOSE's popularity is a result of mass hypnosis.....

I swear I hear no difference between Bose and any other average sound system.

Very clever advertising and very little substance...

Definitely not worth anything extra... and certainly not worth what Porsche is asking...

I went from Bose to no Bose. Don't waste your money- IMO the stock system actually sounds better- far more natural, no "boomy" bass and overstretched highs. The Bose system is an absolute waste of money.

And FWIW I have a big McIntosh, Shanling CD player w/tubes and B&W 801s at home; I listen to music a lot and think my ears are pretty good.

Quick Reply: upgrade to Bose?
