Leaving car in garage for 3 weeks
I am leaving on a three week trip – is this a reasonable period to have my 997.1 sitting in the garage without being started up or driven? I thought of having my son come over and drive it or at least start it up once a week if that is necessary, or is that just me being ridiculous?

That is being over cautious. If you don't have a battery maintainer pop the frunk incase the battery does die.
Or just be a great dad and let your son enjoy it on the weekends

you will be fine. If you have a trickle charger you could use it, but I'd just lock it up (This shuts down the computers and sensors qucker) and go on your trip.
When you return, expect that they key fob may not unlock the car. Unlock with the key, but don't open the door. Then lock and unlock the car again with the fob. Check the manual, but I think the car goes into "Sleep Mode" after about a week and stops sensing for the key fobs to save the battery.

Three weeks sitting will be just fine.
My car sits from late November until the weather clears, typically in mid to late March.
Put it on its battery tender and you should not have any issues.
I have actually never had any issues with the car not recognizing the key fob after an extending duration of sitting.

A great opportunity to pick up a battery tender if you don't have one already.
I use mine whenever the car sits for more than 3-4 days or so just to be cautious.

If I let mine (2012 997 C2s) sit without a trickle charger for three weeks, it would be dead when I returned. Dealer says its normal. I doubt it, but you should be fine.
