Default Michelin PSS VS Bridgestone RE11

Looking at a new set of tires, I've currently been using the RE11's which i've liked. It seems a lot of people are going with the PSS. Any reason not to go with the PSS, they're cheaper than the RE11's.

If you track your car don't get the PSS. The Bridgestone are you one is a better product. I know many who participate in DE and they were unsatisfied with PSS.

This write-up (Gary Sims ) played a big role in choosing the MPSS over any other tire, as well as an online consensus that MPSS is the way to go.

While I wasn't initially impressed, I was sold once the tires were properly warmed up and I tried sliding a corner I was used to sliding on RE050A N1's. Rear never kicked out and PSM never kicked in - pure grip!

MPSS is the best balanced Performance tire you can buy bar none. It has a great balance between ride, performance, wet, noise, and wear. It's an engineering feat if you ask me, to make a tire do all of those things great all at once.

Now, RE11, is a great tire on its own right, a bit more performance oriented, with less wet traction, stiffer sidewall, and overall once of better options for track and dry performance applications.

So, if this more for track, dry weather, RE11, for any other application, MPSS.

I went back to back from having new MPSS on my Carrera S that I had just put on before I sold it to new RE11 tires that came with my new GTS.
There is a 90 degree corner I go around ever morning on the way to work - it is significantly easier to have the rear end slip out with the RE11's than it was with the MPSS....and the RE11'S are on GTS with a wider track. I can't wait till these RE11's wear out and I can replace them with MPSS.
The RE11 also appear to be wearing much more quickly than either the of the two sets of MPSS I've had....They seem to be about the same as the PS2's that originally came on my Carrera S. I think the wear grade is significantly higher on the MPSS- which is supportive of my experience.

There is a new RE-11 out now...unless you have an uncommon application, RE-11 is replaced with RE-11A.

its cause your RE11 need more heat to stick properly because they are track focused... MPSS are great cold... but don't "fee" as good as they have a soft sidewall... so many people in our PCA don't like them... but if your looking for balanced ride, comfort, and rainp performance as well then PSS.

His anyone had any real world experience with the life expectancy of either of these tires, or are they too new? I ask because the MPSS has a tread wear rating of 300 and the RE-11A is only rated at 200. Will the MPSS actually go 50% more miles than the RE-11? If so, that would make it a real bargain, especially with the cost of mounting and road force balancing added in.

Nope, each rating is dependent per manufacturer, so a Bridgestone 300 will last 50% more than Bridgestone 200, but you cannot compare Bridgestone and Michelin ratings. Why is it designed this way, don't ask me, doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.

But, anecdotally MPSS should last longer, by how much, not sure.

PSS are not Porsche rated tires. Michelin PS2 are, though. RE-11 are as well.

In other tire threads, some members reported that the latter half of the tire life was very loud with road noise.

Porsche rated tires are marketing BS...do not fall for that junk. Plenty of guys do DE's with MPSS and drive them on the public streets are they are much better than the old PS2.

Contact Deputy Dog on the 997GT3 forum...he tracked and ran on the street MPSS on his GT3. Most all the GT3 guys replaced their factory tires with the MPSS...there is a reason for that. As soon as my stock Pirelli P Zero's (Porsche rated) wear out MPSS are going on my GTS.

I've found the RE-11 to be an excellent performance tire - if I were to buy a new set of tires, I'd probably stick with the RE-11s.
